On politics, in general I'd tend to agree about the excesses in the system, but OTOH *somehow* we have to get people with divergent goals and ideas to agree enough to make society function. Politics seems to be the most efficient *long term* solution to doing this. Maybe what you're seeing come out of the system is just a reflection of what your fellow citizens are putting in to it (as little as possible), and not a reflection of the system itself.
