Scotland: Report censures Passport Agency over backlog fiasco

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

TOP officials in the UK Passport Agency
are today censured by MPs for last year's
"farce" when a major backlog of passport
applications caused misery to thousands of
holidaymakers and severe embarrassment
for the Government.

. . .

Flaws meant the production of 400,000
passports was lost.

. . .

By June 1999, more than 500,000
applications were waiting to be processed.
This amounted to a backlog of more than a
month's work.

. . .

More than 500 people missed their holiday
dates, and many thousands were forced to
travel to passport offices to pick up their
passports.
