PROVIDENCE - An underground cable fault caused a power outage in various parts of the city last night for one hour, according to a spokeswoman for Narragansett Electric. Approximately 3000 customers were without power from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., according to Amy Tull.

Defunct Cables Cause Outage

Narragansett Electric Company spokesperson Robert Seega says some six- to-eight-thousand of the company's customers were without power for varying lengths of time Tuesday afternoon. He says the problem, which began shortly after noon, was a pair of malfunctioning cables on Admiral Street in Providence that feed into a sub station. Seega says crews were able to get power restored to about half of those customers fairly quickly. Everyone had the electricity back shortly after five p-m.
