RIO DE JANEIRO, (Reuters) - Brazil's state
oil giant Petrobras is investigating a spill
from one of its tankers into Rio's scenic bay,
the second oil leak in the area in five months,
the company said Tuesday.

. . .

Company officials were quick to quash rumors of
a ruptured pipeline, the cause of the last oil
spill in January when 338,000 gallons of fuel
oil leaked into the bay and caused its worst
ecological disaster in 25 years.

. . .

Countless marine birds, fish, crabs and mussels
suffocated in the thick fuel oil as the slick
spread across Guanabara Bay into a marshland
reserve.
