Walter Nichols, chinese deco rugs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Art Deco Society of Washington : One Thread

I'm trying to learn about the history of Chinese Deco rugs, an importer named Walter Nichols, and something referred to as "Mandelin" Chinese rugs. I'd also like to know if there are sources for these types of rugs.

For examples of Nichols and other Deco Chinese rugs go to www.cyberrug.com.

Nichols was the most famous maker of these types of rugs, but all of his records were burned when Japan occupied Northern China durring WWII. The only way we know that a rug was made by Nichols now is if it is stamped along the white cotton fringe of the rug "MADE IN CHINA BY NICHOLS".
