I used to drive fast; now I generally stay within the speed limit. I have a son who died in an auto accident he caused and I am all too aware of what the consequences of irresponsible driving are (thank God he only killed himself). Somehow, an extra 5, 10, or even 30 minutes added to my total drive time doesn't seem so much over the total length of my life.

If you call driving at the same speed as the general flow of traffic speeding - - - guilty as charged.

Driving slower, even in the slow lane is difficult, because even there every one is in a hurry. It does seem safer to me than being tailgated.

You can't go faster than the traffic is moving, a car length gain can cause a fatality.

I almost killed myself on my bike when I was a teen. I am extremely cautious now and even avoid downhill skiing. :) -BTW, a comment to the theory and practice of superspeed: My speedsters have generally found that even at velocities well below sound, curves become a serious problem. When superspeed is attained by a time pocket, the speedster expects the laws of nature to operate as usual, but they do not. Centrifugal force is extremely much stronger than what it feels like, and the speedster find himself clumsily running on the spot to draw himself back in on the road ... it is like the whole landscape has tilted and gravity is working sideways. Gah.

I drove like a typical adolescent/young adult until I was in a accident at 21 (not my fault) where I needed stiches on my knee and eyelid. I have a pain tolerance equivelent to the average 4 year old, so I'm very cautious now.

The faster the better.

I usually drive 5 to 10 over the speed limit. I'm pretty cautious about keeping a barrier between me and the car in front of me. Freeways here in sacramento, ca are run about 5 over everywhere. I'm 18 now, and I'd like to live to be 101 someday, so I slowed down ever since i got pulled over for a 75 in a 45 zone. Fortunately, i was let off with a warning. The officer then said he didn't want to see me picked up on the side of the road in a few mangled pieces. I'm careful, but I still speed from time to time. It seems faster, physically, and mentally. Maybe someday, I'll slow down.

Ya i wouldnt speed if there were consequences, but police cars are slow and mine isnt so i dont worry about them. i just hit the gas a little harder when i see flashing lights. dont drive slow, youll just piss people off.
