Spider, because you frequently post these type of malfunctions, a question? Has there been an increase in these nuclear incidents?

There are about two scrams a month average.
There hasn't been an abnormal amount of
scrams since the Dec. 30 - Feb. 3 period.
I think that there were about a dozen scrams
during that period. A scram is where all the
Cobalt rods are dropped into the core at once.
This absorbs the neutrons and halts the nuclear
process. They only do this if there is a major
problem as this is a very unstable way to stop
the reactor. BTW, I have no technical expertise
in this area.

Just checked the records. 10 in May
and 7 in April. This is well above
normal.

Thanks Spider, I don't have technical expertise here either (I was an Airdale in the Navy) but from my friends in the Boomers, a scram was a very undesirable way of stopping a nuclear reaction and not with out risk.

Correction: Cadmium Rods
