Lost AF man, found.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I was sent this in an e-mail. Has anyone else heard about this. Boy would I like to talk to this guy. Can you imagine being thrust into this world today. I think I might like to fo back to the island. Talk about homesteading. There is something to be said for the indomitable human spirit.

"Has anyone seen the article about the White Man found on Solomn(SP?) Islands? He was the only person to survive a plane crash. it was a Air Force Plane during the War. He was just found after living on fish & veggies for over 40 years. He is in Washington Army Hos. The AF is trying to locate his family. Talk about learning to Survive. This is true, they found him lat week. Unreal,Huh!!!!!!"

Little Bit -- I just did a search on this at the Washington Post -- I kinda thought they'd have a story about it if anyone did....nothing. I'll keep looking -- this kind of thing fascinates me. Homesteaders choose to live self-sufficiently. What a difference to be cut off from society COMPLETELY for this long, through no choice of your own!

Very interesting. I just checked Robinson Crusoe out of the library this past weekend and have been reading on it. I'm just to the point where Crusoe has discovered a footprint. Wonder whose it could be? lol At that point he had already been on the island 11 years. I sometimes think that I would like to be a modern day Crusoe. Hmm, maybe more like the Swiss Family Robinson Family. It would be nice to have family about I believe. Both SFR and Crusoe had much salvage from the ships they were on. Any of you have an island for sale that is pretty safe from the wrath of nature?

It seems that "Unreal,Huh!!!!" might be right! Did anyone find this? I didn't see it in the papers...did I miss it?

Are we having a little trouble separating fact from legend?
