Companion planting asparagus

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I planted asparagus in early spring. It is now up and seeding. What I would like to know is if I can plant an anual crop in the same beds with the asparagus without injury to it's development. Perhaps peas? Let me know what you've all done with your asparagus beds while you waited two years for an edible crop. Thank you.

Thank you, Renee. That is a good idea.

I planted crookneck squash on the end of the bed and hope to drape it over and around as it grows. Last year I only used mulch. I use a manure mulch that helps keep the weeds under control too.
