Britain: 10,000 job losses announced in one week

Thousands of workers face the sack after a series
of long-established companies announced they
would rationalise, or completely abandon their
British-based operations.

Within days of one another, clothing and household
retailers Great Universal Stores (GUS), high street
clothes retailer C&A, electronics firm BAe Systems
and steel company Corus announced a total of
over 10,000 job losses.
