Cheap White Dutch Clover Seed?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

"William in WI" wrote yesterday about using white Dutch clover as a living mulch, but disliked paying so much for the seed. I agree, William. Can anyone recommend a source for the seed priced under $3.00/lb. after shipping? That's the best price I could find in eastern Nebraska.

There are 800,000 seeds to a pound of White Dutch Clover. It is sown 2-3 lbs per acre and is a perennial. Why worry about a one time cost for a mulch crop for a garden????

Because in a garden it is not a one time cost. It keeps getting tilled back in. Your only option to try to use last years would be to weed it out of the rows, whick kinda defeats the purpose, and replant a crop with the same spacing requirement back in its place which is kind of a hassle. If you dont pull it out of the rows in the spring it may, and often does, strangle out the sprouts fro the new seeds you have just planted.
