cutting suckers off of corn : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does it do any good (and is it worth the time) to cut sucker sprouts off of corn like you do for tomato plants? My Dad has a large plot of corn and would appreciate some advice. Thanks!

This might depend on the brand you grow, but we have found that the Funks bi-color sweet corn that we grow, will mature two nice ears and one immature ear, whether we cut the suckers or not. I happen to love the immature ears, which I harvest a little early and saute, you can eat them cob and all, just like the mini ears sold in the gormet section. Vicki

Better your Dad should spend time making beer, or even simply drinking it! Waste of time in my opinion! GL!

Jill, this has been studied and removing suckers doesn't help, and leaving them on in some cases helps. Gerbil

Leave them on. Sit in the shade.
