Sigma 400 f/5.6 non Apo macro version??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

The Sigma 400mm f/5.6 AF lens. Any good??? I can get this lens for relatively cheap and were wondering about the optical quality of it, not being a Apo lens, and also how would the autofocus be on Nikon F801?

Thank you for any information

Of course I am used Canon with it, not sure how it performs with Nikon.

Have a look at http://www.photodo.com/nav/prodindex.html - then click on Sigma lenses - you'll find the 400/5.6 non-apo with a very poor MTF reading of 1.7. Some tests I've found in the French Magazine 'Chasseur d'Images' gave the same bad figures. My advice: don't waste your money on it.
