AmeriServe Receives Extension

The U.S. Bankruptcy Court approved AmeriServe
Food Distribution, Inc.'s motion for an extension
of the exclusive period during which the company
can file a plan of reorganization and solicit
acceptances thereof until August 10, 2000 and
October 10, 2000. The approved extension is four
months shorter than what the Company, which has
been operating under Chapter 11 protect ion
since January 31, 2000, requested.

AmeriServe Food Distribution, Inc.

Finding its increasing debt less than palatable,
AmeriServe Food Distribution has filed for Chapter 11
protection. One of the top food service distributors in the
US, it supplies food, paper products, and equipment to
about 30 restaurant chains, totaling some 36,000
restaurants in the US, Canada, and Mexico. Its biggest
customer is TRICON Global Restaurants -- Pizza Hut,
Taco Bell, KFC. (In 1997 it bought PepsiCo's food service
distributor.) AmeriServe is losing prime client Burger
King, which acounts for about one-third of the supplier's
sales. Holberg Industries (34%-owned by Norwegian
consumer goods company Orkla) is a majority owner of
AmeriServe.
