Given past discussions on this list. I thought I'd send this here. I honestly don't know what to say about it all. The whole thing is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. On the other hand, perhaps that should have seen done long ago. The first part is by the militia whose demonstration is planned for June 17th. The second is a news article. I know this is long folks. I am sorry for the length. I am just floored that this is America. Joel, maybe you are right about where all this is leading. I honestly hope not. COMPLETE REPORT ON THE DEMONSTRATION OF FREEDOM AND CONSTITUTIONAL TEST OF THE GOVERNMENT ON JUNE 17, 2000

by Captain Dan Shoemaker

WHAT WILL HAPPEN? On June 17, a demonstration of freedom is scheduled to be conducted by Capt. Dan Shoemaker. Shoemaker will wear his Militia uniform and carry weapons while taking a walk in the center of Galesburg and Monmouth. The demonstration will begin at 9:00 AM near the square in Galesburg. If everything remains the same the demonstration in Monmouth will begin at about 10:15 AM in the block south of the public safety building on Main Street.

THIS IS INTENDED TO BE A NONVIOLENT DEMONSTRATION.

Even though this is intended to be a nonviolent demonstration, physical intervention by government agents or perhaps by others may cause this to be a violent event. The information in this report is intended to prevent such an unfortunate occurrence.

WHY IS THIS SO LEGALLY CONTROVERSIAL?

Illinois law tightly controls or prohibits the carrying of deadly weapons. If the U.S. Constitution was not present to protect Shoemaker, Illinois law would indicate that carrying weapons by a citizen is a felony law violation. In some other states this demonstration would be legal without question.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THIS DEMONSTRATION?

On June 10, at the 5th annual public meeting of the Western Illinois Militia, Capt. Shoemaker will announce that members of the Western Illinois Militia have the uninfringed right to keep and to bear arms. This right is derived from the second amendment to the U. S. Constitution and is available to members of this Militia for the reasons detailed in this report. The purpose of this political activity is to take back a small amount of freedom. It should be clearly understood that we are not attempting to do anything new. This constitutional freedom has always existed and the Militia is simply claiming it now. The Militia is not attempting to claim this right for all citizens of Illinois. Capt. Shoemaker believes that his abilities are limited to simply claiming this freedom only for members of the Western Illinois Militia. It should be noted that membership in this Militia is open to all sincere Illinois citizens. Therefore other citizens may enjoy their second amendment freedom by joining the Western Illinois Militia.

WHAT DOES THE SECOND AMENDMENT SAY? "

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

WHY IS THIS A TEST FOR THE GOVERNMENT?

All domestic governments must be subordinate to the Constitution of the United States. No domestic government can govern outside of or in a superior way to the U. S. Constitution.

NO GOVERNMENT CAN DENY CONSTITUTIONAL FREEDOM TO ITS CITIZENS.

Government officials and policemen take an oath and swear to "support the Constitution of the United States". At this time it is being demonstrated why that loyalty oath is mandated for the police and government leaders. Current Illinois law denies easy access for most citizens to enjoy their second amendment freedom. Currently only policemen in Illinois enjoy the uninfringed ability to carry weapons. So this demonstration will determine in a public way whether or not Illinois is a police state.

Domestic governments which work to halt this demonstration or penalize Shoemaker for his participation can be said to have failed in their responsibility to uphold and be loyal to the U. S. Constitution.

Individual government agents and leaders whether they be policemen, judges, states attorneys, the attorney general or the governor, who may attempt to stop this demonstration of Constitutional Freedom may have to address the issue of whether or not they are committing treason and are breaking their oath of loyalty to the U. S. Constitution.

WHAT MAKES THE WESTERN ILLINOIS MILITIA A VALID AND WELL REGULATED MILITIA?

This Militia has been in existence since 1995. In 1996 we became a public access Militia. Later, as the officer's corps inside the Militia was developed, membership was opened up to any Illinois resident. The Western Illinois Militia has a 5 year record of existence. Beginning in 1996 we held one annual public meeting each year. The Government has been able to address the Militia at each of these meetings. For 5 years the government has shown acceptance of our existence as a citizen's Militia. This Militia has worked hard to insure continuous existence, to develop good officers, and to develop good policy.

THESE THINGS PROVIDE FOR A WELL REGULATED MILITIA FROM INSIDE THE MILITIA:

1. Each member swears an oath to support and defend the U.S. Constitution.

2. Each member must complete an application form to enter.

3. Each member must sign a basic enlistment agreement to join. This includes an agreement to abide by all Militia policy and to follow orders in accordance with that policy.

4. Each member must sign an agreement not to spy on, sabotage, or disperse the Militia.

5. The stated goal of this Militia is to support and defend the U. S. Constitution and to work to restore constitutional Liberty.

6. This Militia has a moral code of conduct which prohibits purposely causing harm to noncombatants or innocent people. Each member agrees to abide by this code of conduct.

7. Officers are democratically elected or approved annually in accordance with internal policy.

8. External policy was implemented in 1996. This policy limits the conduct of members.

A. It prohibits members from participating in any attempt to overthrow the United States Government.

B. It prohibits members from attempting to harm the President of the United States. It regulates the Militia in other ways.

9. Internal policy was implemented in 1998. This further regulates the conduct of officers and members in their conduct inside the Militia. It provides for the best possible response to emergencies, etc..

10. One or more Militia officers has always been available to communicate with government agents or leaders since 1996.

THESE ARE THE WAYS THE GOVERNMENT REGULATES THE WESTERN ILLINOIS MILITIA:

1. The federal, state, and local governments provide oversight for the Western Illinois Militia in a variety of ways.

Throughout the history of this Militia this oversight has often been antagonistic and harsh. The fact that the Western Illinois Militia still exists and has not been dispersed by the government indicates that it has survived an intense, informal regulatory process.

2. The state and federal governments routinely conduct surveillance directed at this Militia thereby regulating it and providing oversight.

3. The state government routinely lists every known member of the Western Illinois Militia on the Illinois State Police computer as, "considered armed and dangerous".

If this is not a process used to regulate the Militia, then it is in violation of the Illinois State Constitution.

4. Some members of this Militia possess Illinois F.O.I.D cards (firearms owner identification). This is an obvious regulatory action by the state government. Our policy does not mandate the possession of this card for membership as it may be an infringement of our right to keep and bear arms.

All of these things work together to cause the Western Illinois Militia to be a "well regulated Militia." WE MUST RESIST! Shoemaker ready to risk it all for militia movement http://www.thehawkeye.com/daily/stories/ln11068.html

By Stephen A. Martin The Hawk Eye

. Arms: 'Burned out' leader says he will resist arrest 'violently and immediately.'

OQUAWKA, Ill. -- Calling on his followers to kill the "enemies of freedom," Western Illinois Militia leader Dan Shoemaker said he's prepared for a fight June 17.

Shoemaker has scheduled an armed one-man demonstration for that day on the public squares in Galesburg, Ill., and Monmouth, Ill., to protest laws that limit where firearms can be carried -- a demonstration law enforcement officials say they're prepared to stop.

"I'm stating for the record that all members of the Western Illinois Militia now have the uninfringed right to keep and bear arms," Shoemaker told those gathered at a rural Oquawka farm Saturday. "I will risk all that I have to publicly demonstrate that freedom."

Shoemaker said that right is derived from the U.S. Constitution and its Second Amendment guarantee of a right to bear arms. Gun control advocates say that right only refers to the ability of states to arm their National Guards. Opponents of gun control say it was intended to apply to all citizens.

Illinois law prohibits carrying a weapon within a city unless it is unloaded and disassembled or put in a case.

After five years of leading the group, estimated at between 50 and 200 members, Shoemaker said he is "burned out" and tired of what he called a "hot, psychological war" between police and his self-styled group.

"On June 17, perhaps I will again be renewed," he said.

But he said it's equally likely he'll be killed -- and that's something he's ready for, if necessary.

"I will live free or die," he said.

If his protest results in the latter, he said, the authorities should be warned about what could happen next.

"For five years I have held good soldiers back," he said. "On June 17, I will be the point man. If the enemies of freedom attack, there will be no one to hold them back."

Shoemaker spoke to a half dozen uniformed members of his group, who carried various assault-style weapons from variations of the AK-47 to semi-automatic versions of the U.S. Army's M-1 and M-16. Others were ressed in jeans and T-shirts, and supporters said there were other militia members who either were hiding in the surrounding woods keeping a lookout against authorities or had deliberately decided not to be present.

Most said they intended to be "in the area" during the June 17 protest, but declined to say exactly where.

Shoemaker said he's seen other groups in the self-described patriot movement dispersed or otherwise rendered ineffective.

In one case, he said, a militia leader and his family were found dead at the bottom of a lake after being handcuffed and having plastic bags fastened over their heads with duct tape.

Shoemaker blamed the deaths on government agents threatened by the man's teachings, and asked how such a man -- a former special forces commando in the U.S. Army -- could have been overpowered by his assailants.

"They probably knocked on the door ... and showed their badges," he said.

He said that's why he'll refuse to give up his gun if police attempt to arrest him Saturday, and why he'll resist "violently and immediately."

"They have pushed us far enough," he said. "It is time for us to draw the line."

Shoemaker said none of those who formed the militia group with him in 1995 are still active members. Most left after three years -- the length of time he said it takes for most people to give up after what he described as systematic harassment by authorities.

Every day, he said, he wakes up and wonders if those authorities will be coming to his house to harass or imprison him.

"I think, damn, they're not coming today," he said.

The demonstration, set to take place at 9 a.m. in Galesburg and later that morning in Monmouth, will bring the fight to those authorities and force them to decide, he said.

Shoemaker said they can decide to allow his protest, which he equated with upholding the constitution, or to stop it.

He called on law enforcement officials not to create a situation where "open warfare" could break out on the streets of the two cities, but said any agency that opposes constitutional freedom should be wiped out to the last man.

"Don't stop killing the enemy until they are all dead," he said.

Shoemaker spoke from a make-shift stage next to an American flag, where he introduced the men who would take over in the case of his capture or death.

Kenny Butler, the militia's next-in-command, asked those gathered to look at the hummingbirds that flew around the feeders hanging from trees in his yard.

"I'd sure like to keep what I've got out here," he said. "But the way we're going, I'm afraid I'm going to lose it."

I want to take this moment to thank you littlebitfarm for being a great researcher and friend on this forum. I never ask for anyone to join the cause in this forum. I did intend to open some eyes and attract "like-minded people" to study the impending problem. Now, as we seriously approach the time of armed conflict to insure our God given rights, I find my time completely taken. I always said that revolution fell squarely on the shoulders of those least likely suited to conduct it. My home and farm are nearly surrounded by agents of the opposition to freedom. I'm not real sure how much longer I/we can sustain ourselves. I too, intend to live free or die in the attempt thereof ! My crime is freedom of speech and yours will die with me. Thanks to everyone who contributed to freedom of speech on this forum both pro and con. The hope of a free nation falls from my shoulders to yours if or when I fall. Don't fail your children ! Peace is not worth the chains of bondage. If you wish to be more like Jesus than take up your bullwhip and drive the money changers off your land, your country and out of the temple. It's your world, NEVER FORGET IT !

violence only begets violence! When does it stop? After our childrens children fall? I learned a lesson recently which I would like to share,Our neighbors have been a chalenge[let there kids run lose, drugs, ect]one day my husband son and I left to run a erand, as we pulled away I saw there son going into our yard so we pulled around the block and came back to find him carrying our old cat upside down across the street, Well we yelled at him and here came his mother, father and uncle in our face about yelling at there kid, we staid cool and started to pull away again. Then the mother started calling me names, I have a Irish temper and in the past I would have taken the bait and fought her but this day I just kept driving, Latter I realized I had taught my son that you dont need to fight and how to walk away. And the neighbors never gave us a problem since.killing is for ever and a life is to precious to waste. Pasive resistence is much better and teaches a much better lesson [ right on martin luther] .

-- kathy h (saddlebronc@msn.com), June 15, 2000.

I pray Shoemaker can hold his fire and ultimately fight through to the Supreme Court (also provided for by the Constitution) and defeat unconstitutional gun laws. Personally I do not feel that registration, waiting periods, background checks or safety requirements are an infringement of the right to bear arms. But defining "militia" as the National Guard is clearly out in left field. I've suffered from a great deal of city-oriented brainwashing and I thank Joel for being one of the forces that have helped me shake the cobwebs out of my brain. I oppose needless violence and death, especially of innocent bystanders, but I agree that Shoemaker has the right to hold his protest. God save us all.

-- Deborah (ActuaryMom@hotmail.com), June 15, 2000.

I find it ironic that the greatest leaders that used passive resistance and civil disobedience were shot or crucified. When does it end ? Probably never ! We are a violent, sinful people. It is a never ending bad overthrow the good --the good overthrow the bad than corrupt themselves--cycle. The efficient people just cut to the chase and start to kill as they understand change is accomplished thru war. I would welcome Ghandi,King or Jesus to take this cup from us but alas, Hell has come to dinner cleverly disguised in stars and stripes and selling slavery in the form of a greenback paper dollar. You might notice that God's picture is not on it and niether are the men you almost mentioned. It's truth, justice and the american way--I know you thought truth and justice was the american way--Wrong !

-- Joel Rosen (Joel681@webtv.net), June 15, 2000.

I thought I'd add some things about my own personal beliefs to this. I personally believe that everyone should be committed to restoring freedom in our country without violence. I unfortunately also know this is probably not the way it will happen. I am personally determined to get on with the business of protecting my loved ones and raising my children to uphold the values of freedom. I feel that what I do though is going to have very little effect on the eventual outcome. Even if Shoemaker stands in the street and dies and no one cares. There will be those who follow behind him. Eventually, it will lead to either conflict or a restoration of freedom through the market place of ideas and ideals. I will fight for freedom within the framework of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. I will fight non-violently until given no other recourse, but when given the choice of slavery for my children in a Godless nation and freedom I, along side my fellow Americans will pick up arms. I personally feel that time has not come. I feel there is hope for America, even as far down the path we've come. I believe that ninety percent of our problem is that most of the American people don't realize they have one. I believe like our forefather's we should proclaim freedom across this nation to everyone who will listen. The time may come when we have hard choices to make, but now is the time to live as free individuals. Homesteading frees the mind from the cobwebs spoken of earlier. It gives us all a chance to get a handle on what freedom really means. People in America are enslaved in so many ways and don't feel it or realize it. Most of these ways have nothing to do with the government. Technology can mean freedom or it can mean slavery. Technology on becomes a problem when the attitude toward it is wrong. I guess the thing I love about homesteading is that we use technology, but we are not owned by it. I feel as a wife and a mother it is my job to live free before my children in order that they may know what freedom really means. Someday that may require arms, for now I will do it by standing for my beliefs, by sharing them with others, by living them, and by homesteading. I want all of you to know I did not send the above information because I think this is the right thing to do now. I do however stand behind this man's right to do so as a freeman in a free nation. When called upon I would defend his right and all of yours.

Regarding the US code, if I say that the Constituition is being violated and we need to take back OUR government and I am willing to do it, there is no violation, huh? Interesting how they make laws to break the back of the supposed document that is supposed to limit the power hungry, isn't it? Thought you might enjoy this.....

Thank You Mr. President >Dear Mr. President: > >I recently saw a bumper sticker that said, "Thank me, I voted for >Clinton-Gore." So, I sat down and reflected on that and I am sending my >"Thank you" for what you have done, specifically: >1. Thank you for introducing us to Jennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, >Monica Lewinsky, Dolly Kyle Browning, Kathleen Willey, and Juanita >Broaddrick. Are there any others that we should know about? >2. Thank you for teaching my 8 year old about oral sex. I had really >planned to wait until they were about 10 or so to discuss it with them, but >now they know more about it than I did as a senior in college. >3. Thank you for showing us that sexual harassment in the work place >(especially the White House) and on the job is OK, and all you have to know >is what the meaning of "IS" is. It really is great to know that certain >sexual acts are not sex and one person may have sex while the other one >involved does NOT have sex. >4. Thank you for reintroducing the concept of impeachment to a new >generation and demonstrating that the ridiculous plot of the movie, "Wag The >Dog", could be plausible after all. >5. Thanks for making Jimmy Carter look competent, Gerald Ford look >graceful, Richard Nixon look honest, Lyndon Johnson look truthful, and John >Kennedy look moral. >6. Thank you for the 72 House and Senate witnesses who have plead the >5th Amendment and 17 witnesses who have fled the country to avoid testifying >about Democrat campaign fund raising. >7. Thank you for the 19 charges, 8 convictions, and 4 imprisonments >from the Whitewater "mess" and the 55 criminal charges and 32 criminal >convictions (so far) in the other "Clinton" scandals. >8. Thanks also for reducing our military by half, "gutting" much of our >foreign policy, and flying all over the world on "vacations" carefully >disguised as necessary trips. > >Please give my regards to Hillary, when/if you see her. Tell her I'm working >on a "Thank You" letter for her.

I believe I covered that law in my first post in Countryside post " The Founding Fathers" when I said that Paine and Madison would be convicted of treason by our own laws. This particular law would not withstand the scrutiny of the Supreme Court. The problem is--this law has never been tested in that court. One, yet to be realized point is, they have to convict you with a jury. My faith is strongly rooted that no jury of my peers would place me in jail for freedom of speech. Just in this forum alone, acting as a jury, I would get an 10 to 2 hung jury verdict for my statements. Only JOJ and Vickii would want me convicted for speech. The law actually states that you must act on your speech and gather in like minded people to join, aid, and/or conspire with you. I have an attorney who tells me that I push the statued hard but I have never broken it. The forces of the governmment are close to me now in the hope I will "cross that line". I may be careful but I will continue to speak freely ! The Constitution is the law of this country,or was--I proclaim my alligence to a much greater and older set of laws. The fact that I have no fear of jails is scary to them. I consider a jail to be a vacation resort/recruiting center. To kill me is the only option that is left to them.

-- Joel Rosen (Joel681@webtv.net), June 16, 2000.

I almost had sympathy for Dan Shoemaker until I got to the part of LBF's post about Dan getting arrested in a school area with firearms. In the words of Daffy Duck... "WHADDA M-A-R-O-O-O-O-O-N." He couldn't have shot himself in the foot better if he had tried. Now, he has nothing. No press, little sympathy and no legal defence. He will be tried by a jury of his peers. The prosecution will make absolutely sure that some of the jurors are parents of school aged children. The prosecutor will crucify him as having brought weapons into a school area. Regardless of his "message", he will be made to look like a dangerous buffoon.

Too bad Dan didn't read Sun Tsu on the Art of War. You never fight an enemy on THEIR terms. You make him fight on yours. Maybe I should send him a copy. What's the address of the Illinois State Pen?

First, let me mention that the guns found in Mr. Shoemaker's car may or may not have been planted there. Anyone who has followed Waco or even looked at the news from New York City or Los Angeles should realize that our law enforcers are not above it. Also note that they are now "law enforcers" not peace officers.

Also, this may or may not be over. A lot of the militias in that end of the world are aligned with others from several other states. I believe his may be one of them. If so, several of the militias in that area have agreed that they will not allow any more of their leaders to be arrested and locked in prison for weapons charges, as a number are serving time now for just possessing weapons in their homes. The government would first claim that the weapons were illegal, then miraculously misplace the weapons, but the person would get convicted by the carefully chosen jury despite the lack of hard evidence. The organized militias have stated that the time has come and they will tolerate no more such actions, and will not allow any more of their people to be put in prison where it is too hard to get them out. We will just have to wait and see.

These are dangerous times to even post any message that is contrary to the government's actions. Look at the stream of blood flowing from just the Waco investigation, not to mention Whitewater, or Mena. Several other hot topics have brought up several dead bodies too. We have a kangaroo court system running in this country, a corrupt and power hungry leadership, and a sleeping or spineless electorate. Please, tell me how this can be resolved peacefully? If either of the two main candidates are elected next time, we will just get more of the same. I don't believe that we will even be able to tell Billy Boy is out of office. And I'm still not 100% sure that he intends to leave anyway.

-- Carmen (logcabin_now@yahoo.com), June 16, 2000.

I'm the parent of a school age child and I sure as heck wouldn't vote to convict. I wouldn't mind if the janitor CARRIED a gun AT school. Might stop some of these ignorant punks from shooting up their school mates if they knew someone was available to return fire.

We were on vacation in the motorhome one time, when it broke down on the interstate. My husband headed out walking to the nearest exit, while I stayed in the motor home with two young girls. I sent the girls to the back of the motor home to play with their Barbies, while I sat in the booth, facing the door, with a loaded .357 on the table by my hand. Several cars stopped, I politely thanked them and assured them that everything was under control. A state police officer stopped, came up and started to step in the door. He stopped on the first step, then stepped back out. I invited him in, explained what the problem was and requested that he look for my husband ahead on the road, and take him to the nearest auto parts store and bring him back. He agreed, then pointed at the gun, and asked if it was loaded. I pointed to the girls and said "What do you think?" On the ride back, he told my husband that he sure hoped no troublemakers stopped by the motorhome - cause he sure didn't want to have to bodybag THEM - guess he had faith in me to protect what was near and dear to me.

-- Polly (tigger@moultrie.com), June 16, 2000.

I am the mother of school aged children also. The thing is that when in court you only get to hear half the evidence that is there. 50% of it you are not allowed to hear. I think this is wrong. I think that both sides ought to be able to get up and present their case the way they want. Let the Jury weed through truth and falsehood.

What better way to control things than by keeping quiet. I honestly don't think anything happened. From what I understand even sources from within his own organization felt like he'd kinda lost it. Of course there is a strong need out there on the part of the authorities and the press to marginalize the patriot movement. Not that some aren't marginal enough already.
