Cut Lines Leave Phones Dead

Nearly 5,000 Bell Atlantic customers in Essex could be without phone service until late Thursday or early Friday. A construction crew accidentally cut through three cables, leaving the residents without phone lines. The following exchanges are affected: 686, 687, 391, 574, 682, 780 and 918.
