Softie is on top of the league...say Softie's top of the league

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

It had to happen sooner or later, and it couldnt have happened to a nicer fella.

Our beloved and esteemed Corinthian League administrator tonight became the first person to correctly predict all the correct elements in tonights game (Italy to win, 2-0, Totti scoring first), so good old Softie hits the heights and gets a bonus to pick up a maximum 15 points and push him into a clear lead at the head of the table.

He is currently sitting in top spot on 29 points, followed, fairly closely it has to be said by Tom on 26 points and then in third place comes Macbeth on 18 points, despite the fact that he didnt even put in a prediction for tonights match.

Most people had the game marked as an Italy win. A number went for 2-0 with a variety of scorers, others went for Totti with a variety of scorelines so there was some good scoring done all round.

As I mentioned in an earlier posting, a full table will appear on the Daily Toon web site after the tenth game (Sweden v Turkey) on Thursday.

I have now started the threads for games 11 (Czech Republic v France) and 12 (Denmark v Holland) both game take place on Friday, so get your predictions in as soon as you can.

Whoohoo! Ruined my enjoyment watching the game, mind, as soon as it went 2-0 I was screaming at them to likk the ball and stop attacking....thank God for Pippo Inzaghi! What a pratt!

I was so delighted when Totti scored that I ran around the sitting room, unfortunately this startled the cat who made as though to dash under my feet, with the threat of physical contact I hurled myself screaming through the air and then lay gesticulating at the bemused cat before putting my hands over my face to staunch the flow of blood from an invisible yet life-threatening injury and thumping the ground. Nicola ordered me into the hall to receive treatment whereupon I came magically back to life and angrily demanded to be allowed to return to the sofa.

Anyone confirm for me that stupid own goal (would've been the 3rd) was disallowed for a push or something?

Stupid german tv over here made it look given, I missed the restart and it took me 5 mins to realise that it actually hadn't been given!!

Delvecchio was adjudged to have pushed the donkey into the dodgy keeper which is what propelled the ball into the back of the net. Sheer bollocks of course, but it's put me top of the league (until tonight no doubt). Lots of bad decisions in the match: fair tackles called fouls, blatant dives from Belgians resulting in Italian players being booked (oh such irony!), handballs in the box missed but at least they were right about the offside calls. Inzaghi was a terrible handicap except for the little pass back to set up Fiore.

Oh bugger bum bollocks, and I was doing so well too!!

Nice call Softie :-)

Don't worry about only being at the top until tonight Softie....Gav ain't even taking part.....YET

HOwever, ANYONE can still join in if they want, you are only 29 points behind, and as Softie proved yesterday, two fully correct predictions would give 30 points total and you are pushing for the top.

You don't even have to send a seperate E Mail, just post your predcition on the relevent thread on this board and the entry automatically gets forwarded to my E Mail account.

What's wrong with it Gav. I'd be interested to know as we were considering running the same kind of thing, along side Geordie's team pick competition, for the Toon matches next season,

I was considering asking if it was too late to join in.....I missed the start and didn't know if there were any rules or anything i needed to sign up for....

I'm very lazy about signing up for things which is why I ignored scratchy's mail which is a disgrace the amount of times he's helped me out....

I'm really sorry...... :(( Gav Esq....

So I just predict score and first scorer on one of these threads then?

Yep that's it.....and it's:

2 Points for Win Lose or Draw

4 Points for the correct score

6 Points for the first scorer

3 Bonus point (making 15 in total) if you get the whole lot right, like Softie did yesterday.

Anyone can join in at any time, it has to be remember that we have already had nine games but it is possible to catch up.

The only timing rule is that your predictions must be in 15 minutes before each match kicks off, and that timing is taken from the date/time stamp on the E Mail in my Hotmail box.

and as you have probably seen on the other thread, if there is more than one player in the squad with the same name (ie the Neville Sisters) then you have to specify which one by way of initial or full first name. If for example you said Neville (what chance eh) but not the inital, then you would only get 3 points and not six.

Maybe if you did decide to do it for next season then you could break the season up into quarters so that people joining late would'nt be too disadvantaged? just a thought....

Where's game 10 gone (tonight Sweden v Turkey)? We put our predictions in Game 11 instead, hope that's OK.
