What's a simple pleasure that makes life worth living?

-- Al Schroeder (al.schroeder@nashville.com), June 13, 2000

Oh SIMPLE. I thought you said SINful!

-- Bev Sykes (basykes@dcn.davis.ca.us), June 13, 2000.

Hearing in my memory things such as "Jesu, joy of man's desiring" also known as one of the "Ode to Joy" s. In my mind the music is more inspiring and majestic than it ever was when my hearing was good. A tender pat by Heather. A "thanks Dad," from any of my children. To watch my last two grandchildren grow from babyhood on into childhood and to challenge their minds and marvel how intellingent they are. To watch loved ones have pleasure, fun, contentment.

More if requested.

Sitting out on the patio, children on my lap, wife at my side...watching the fire-flies flickering their beauty, and the looks of pure wonderment on our kid's faces.

Until football season starts...then the heck with the kids and bugs, the game is on...leave me alone... (just kidding....sorta...)

The smell of fresh coffee...my husband making me breakfast in bed, or calling me from work just to say hi.

I know it seems silly, but Il ove to get the mail, y'know fun mail... a card from my mom, an order I sent off for, latters from friends, that extends to e-mail but it's truely not as fun. I have a Secret Scrappers website and that is so much fun, a secret pals kind of thing that makes getting mail fun. I remember my grandmother used to hear the mailman coming from waaaay down the street each day she be at the box to meet him, I'm not like that yet, but maybe one day, lol. I also love the rain, especially one that cools down a hot day, I love my sweet babies heavy sighs when they are sleeping, it just makes life feel so content. It makes me happy to roll over into the arms of my dear husband. I am especially happy at that moment he comes through the door in the afternoon, each of the kids tackles him in greeting and as they peel off, he embraces me and well to see our greeting, you'd think it had been months instead of just hours!! Lots of little things, I love a job well done, a completed to do list and a good movie to snuggle during!!

Simple pleasure(s) that make life worth living:

There are countless others, and much too many to mention.

-- Katie (missmermaid@hotmail.com), June 14, 2000.

Well, I think I'll just use Katie's responses above - They suit me just fine. But skip the coffee, make that hot Cocoa. My husband makes the best. Sunshine, a good book, quiet time, bubblebaths, an evening walk with my sweetie, a just washed car, drying my wet hair in the sunshine, painting my toenails, wearing pretty underthings, feeling the cat snuggle up to me when I'm sleeping, and feeling/hearing her purr. Feeling/hearing my husband purr..... Oh geeze.....sorry.

This simple pleasure never, ever fails to make everything seem so much more bearable, funny and workable (grouchy parents, in-laws that still preach, hot, hot, brutal Texas summers, cash-flow problems)is this:

One, two, three nights away in a grand (or not-so-grand even) hotel room with my husband/bestfriend/partner-in-crime with just us, some carefully chosen new lingerie (for Me, sillies), pillar candles w/vanilla scent, Cherries-in-the-Snow lipgloss and small bottle of wine, truffles and books to be read aloud to each other.....Victorian novels, Fantasy, and poetry.
