SQL Server 7.0 vs 2000

greenspun.com : LUSENET : SQL Server Database Administration : One Thread

Can you tell how similar SQL Server 2000 is compare to SQL Server 7.0? What I want to attempt is going to 7.0 datawarehouse training and use those skills with 2000. I currently have 2000 beta and, so far, like what I see, but I have never used 7.0 so I don't have a base line to compare differences in the two. If you have had the chance to look at the beta of 2000 could you let me know if this would be feasible or if I wuold be better off waiting for the 2000 training to come out?

thanks Jim

James,

I would (and did) take the SQL Server 7.0 Data Warehousing training. Judging by what I have seen of the SQL Server 2000 betas there are not any startling differences in the data warehousing capabiliites (OLAP in SQL Server 7, Analysis Services in SQL Server 2000) and you probably won't find widespread use of SQL Server 2000 until at least a year from now.

You can read more details in the beta newsgroup, microsoft.beta.shiloh.OLAP.

Good Luck,

Eric
