Well It's kinda nice but there is a few things I don't like. In any animal shot like this it's good not to have a distracting background and the high light at the top is distracting and pulls my eyes to that area instead of the little critter. As for sharpness yes the areas that are in focus are sharp but the very front of his foot at the back is out of focus and it should be in. Unless it's a portrait shot of it's head then all of it should be in focus. Without shooting details it's hard to say what you may have done wrong but if it was me I shoot this this way. Take the reading from the background and underexpose it a little to kill the highlight. Then just use your flash to bring the critter out a bit

I think the subject is too dark under backlit conditions. Fill flash is probably the answer.
