Good and evil are slippery concepts; what is evil to one culture may be considered harmless in another, or even a few years down the line, and it would be arrogant to assume we are exempt from this. However, there is such a thing as right and wrong, one needs only to look at the many clear-cut decisions they make every day to confirm this. Because of it's ambiguity, some have said that Aeon Flux is an amoral show. I disagree, citing Leisure among others. What do you think?

I totally agree with you how good and evil are different to many people....but is there ever really a good and bad? i mean who are we to say what is good and bad...we know what is good or bad by what we have learned throughout our lives, what we are taught to think...it reminds me of that nargile ep. we are what a memeories make us. well anyways i agree with you i do view aeon flux as amoral show...i love it how one can find so many differnt meanings within....

Oh, hello Paul. Posting at the crack of 0255, oops, just guessing. In response to mention of the "nargyle ep" Lady Morgan brought up, this episode for me really made me think about the issue 'trust'. That char. Rorty was incredibly real to me, and I found the ending where he deliberately wiped out his memories as truly painful to see. It was like a suicide. In this ep you see Rorty's original girlfriend, (can't remember her name at the moment) having an affair with Trevor. Don't you think when a lover lies to their mate and exploits the trust they place in them it is evil? Even if the response were conditioned, knowing you are to cause pain in someone else by your actions, and yet using people to satisfy your personal wants, to me that is evil.

I do think that right and wrong can only be learned. I mean when you are born you are not just blessed with the authority to say what is right and what is wrong. Intuition you must learn of it before you can uderstand it and put it to use. If you do not experiment and put your "intuition" to use, then what purpose does it serve? It will become some part of you that is just there, such as the inability to excercise one's intelligence or something as petty as socializing. We go throughout life learning and adapting that is what makes us all different. We are what are memories make us. i mean what if one single moment in time made you who you are today (good or evil, whatever) and what if that single moment never happend? you would be entirly different, think and act different. Pain i also think comes in many forms accoding to the life that one has lived. Jeez i wrote alot, sorry i hope i didn't confuse you more i tend to babble at times.

Like I said before, I don't mind if you check my posting time, Barb. I know I have atrocious hours, heh heh. In the future I'll try to post between 9-12 PM, so as to give others a chance to respond. Reraizure is, I think, a wonderful example of AF's showing us people we normally would never, ever see in any kind of heroic action story, the little guys that get screwed over by "our heroes". Why the otherwise cold Aeon took pity on these characters for once is fascinating also. I think she saw something of herself in Rorty's lover, with her "trust no one" attitude. Aeon empathized with her, and when she died, Aeon took her place with Rorty. Why? I still haven't worked that one out, but losing him, I think, broke her heart.

She had an involuntary reflex action and killed her,accidently remember? So, I guess she felt guilty and wanted to replace what had been taken from him in part, also, this is one of the few eps where you see Aeon laugh, (when she is with Rorty). It's also interesting how Trevor came up with a new way to have fun, and I like that he did it with Aeon, that was an interesting twist to passion.

I have to mention, in case anyone would ever find this interesting, speaking of good/evil, that I miss Art Bell, who had his own radio show called Coast to Coast, and also Dreamland. He always did shows on subjects not touched by other interviewers, and he did them well. He did a lot of shows on ghosts, ufo's, some true, some not, (recently a tragedy in his family took him off air) but he did do a show that was quite interesting, our government had a program called "remote viewing", Ingo Swan was the head of it, and they claim to be able to view with their minds, as a group, for espionage purposes, and provide detailed accurate provable info. He teaches it online, anyway, they claim to have 'viewed' Satan.

Evidently Satan, so they said, has a major plan, which is succeeding, to control the earth, how to get man to behave most like satan? War. And it goes on, it's on 'streaming archive' so you listen to it, like on the radio, and you will hear Art Bell, who really is great. He broadcast from his home in Parumph Nevada. I "viewed" Satan once. We discussed the metaphysical ramifications of a perfect God making a flawed angel. Then we got down to haggling for my soul. Turns out there's a golden violin in it for me. What can I say? I am easily bought.

Actually I thought it was funny. It also is interesting, that seems to be the age old argument, how did a perfect god make an imperfect creature? A lot of people don't believe in religion because of that, to that I say then they obviously recognize they have problems. Actually, the other stuff these people 'viewed' were more realistic. Eg, sites of controversy around the globe, the country, the difficulty in that government, places of secret weaponry, types of hidden weaponry described in detail, real government stuff. Pinpointed to events that really were revealed, too. It was really used as a military secret by our government, I bet there not too happy for it to be on the internet.

However, I still think Aeon identified with Rorty's lover, if only for her ruthlessness... and Morgan, I never said the show was amoral, ambiguous and challenging, yes, but not amoral. But I found your arguments re: learned behavior extremely thought-provoking.
