Commissioner Richard Mills has still not made his recommendation on the Indian issue. You can fax him about wanting a total ban rather than a suggestion that schools ought to ban at (518) 473-4909 , but should also send a hard copy to him at the NY State Education Department, Room 111, Education Building, 89 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12234. Might do well to also cc it to his Native American liaison, Adrian Cook, at Room 478, Education Building Annex, same address.

I've just written my big letter to him, have posted it in our "transcripts and letters" thread so as not to fill up this one.

Perhaps it'll help us and the community if we can plan and sponsor some interesting and pertinent events for the fall...Shall we begin to gather ideas and post them on the bbs?

I'll start with some thoughts... How about: Oren Lyons at the high school.. A library exhibit about the history of stereotyping? One that can travel to all the libraries in the district and end up at the high school library???? Perhaps we can get an exhibit from the ADL or some other organization...

Perhaps we should form working groups in some of the following areas: Outreach to the community Exhibits and education Coalition building Political action etc. etc.

I emailed Marino last week, to ask that he check into where those Indian T-shirts stand in regard to the Board's resolution that they control the logo. I can't see that it has the force of law without being trademarked, nor whether they count because the Indian was still officially in place till June 30, but maybe Meg wants to look into that too?

And also, what happened to COLOR's cheque that they gave for replacement of the logo -- has it been put into escrow, returned, or what?
