To what Carlos?

Oh! Thanks for reminding me!

Please include Mr's. Hoffmeister, Decker, and Flint in the above.

Make that switch the headers.

Smartest: Yourdon. Show me the money baby.

Respected: See Shaye

Loser: Those still here whippin the pony, monkey or whatever.

I have an idea for the most inane question of 2000...

Events and ideas are created by people.

Talking about us is fun.

The Smartest

1. Zoobie

2. Ray

1. Actually it is an 8 way tie between:

Cherri
cpr
Norm
Hoffmeister

Malcom Taylor
Doc Paulie

-- It ain't Over (no@no.no), June 11, 2000.

Decker and Flint belong in the "Which am I today, a doomer or a polly?" category. At least most of the doomers stuck with their convictions through the rollover. Flint was busy taking all of his money out of the bank while arguing why other people should keep their money in the bank. Decker was giving pendantic essays on why he was a better person than Charles Reuben, and how this forum bores him, even though he is responsible for the boringist threads here.

-- Deck and Flint (Birds@ofA.feather), June 11, 2000.

Dear Kickin', you voted for the 5 banned pollies and then you named 5 pollies. So why did you ask for help with the name of the other polly? 5 + 1 = 6, not 5. Duh!

-- Just Kicking Up Poop (poop@kicker.here), June 11, 2000.

1. Biggest Loser: Andy Ray. He was right about Y2K, but was unable to formulate a clear or convincing argument. His threads on TB2000 consisted mostly of the, "Why are doomers stupid?", "Do you want to kill pollies?" variety. Hmmm...5 1/2 months later and I begin to think he's a bot. LL is a close second.
2. Most Respected: Hoffmeister. He communicated well-articulated arguments, without resorting to insinuating condescension or personal attacks. It was largely due to Hoffmeister that I ratcheted down my Y2K concerns considerably last year. I'd be interested to know if anyone else was similarly affected by Hoffmeister.
3. Smartest: Don Florence. Smart, to me, doesn't have a lot to do with being right about Y2K (see number 1, above). Florence wrote on a variety of topics. I always looked forward to his posts, both on and off topic, as learning opportunities.
4. Meanest: cpr. His all caps list making and name-calling raves kept a lot of the undecided and Y2K-confused from taking the Debunking camp seriously.

How did you do that thing to make the letters big and in color? Teach me oh kemosabe!

-- Just Picking up Poop (Pooper@super.scooper), June 11, 2000.

THIS IS WHAT CONVINCED ME, THAT BRER GARE WAS WRONG AND CPR WAS RIGHT. THINK HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE ol' CEEP COULDA CONVINCED HAD HE RESORTEDTOTHISTACTIC!

-- Fan of cpr (the@only.one), June 11, 2000.

Ed Yourdon was the only one who cared, and you pigs chased him off as though he was a criminal.

-- Jaybird (jbyrd@cs.con), June 11, 2000.

You got it all wrong birdbrain. We didnt chase Ed off the forum he just up and flew away (private joke for you forum old timers).

-- Ra (tion@l.1), June 11, 2000.

I think Hoffmeister drew my respect above all others. He had the experience, did the research, yet didn't try and belittle folks who disagreed.

Smartest, meanest, loser, etc. is so subjective as to be worthless categories, IMO. I'd say that the folks who lost are the folks who made life-changing decisions that they now regret having made and can't move beyond the experience to see how they've learned from their decisions.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), June 11, 2000.

Biggest loser from last year is any one who spent New Year's Eve in a bomb shelter telling his kids how lucky they were to have a smart father.

-- Lejes the Saint of Justice (Lejes_Saint@@webtv.net), June 11, 2000.

I always liked Hoffmeister too. But, I have to admit I got more of a kick out of Zoobie's and Andy the Gold Moron's posts.

-- Butt Nugget (catsbutt@umailme.com), June 12, 2000.

Most amusing is a whole new category.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), June 12, 2000.

My most amusing poster goes to C4I and Nikoli. I loved reading the funny predictions he had. (I think they are one and the same). Of course, C4I had all the doomers all a flurry. Remember the thread about ants eating habits. Too funny!

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), June 12, 2000.

Well I guess I'll weigh in here...

I think the smartest were the realists who did some grloating after roll-over, then moved on. Hanging around stating "so and so said this last year doesn't make much sense any more. For instance, the poster now known as "i'malittleteapot" said AndyRays posts were mostly "why are doomers so stupid?". Well, in a short 2 minutes I found several posts from Stinkbomb with titles like this:

Pollyan... 'Optimists' REFUSE To Respond To The Facts Again.

Why do pollyannas care what we GIs think?

The "Debunking Y2K" forum: The sound of one hand clapping

Why are Pollys, like Bad Company, so Dense?

Mutha, I've got a question

Pollyanna reply-- In Like Flint

Anger is Part of denial

I could go on, but won't. What would be the point? I have no desire to re-write history......

-- Mod knows (who@I.am), June 12, 2000.

Darn! forgot the funniest one in regards to AR.

Anyone remeber the original title to this classic moderator doctored thread?

WARNING: AndyRay's SPIN & OPINION: New to Y2K? Concerned about possible failures? Another perspective...

LOL! Yeah that AndyRay sure was a troublemaker....I can see why the moderators needed to alter his posts....

-- Mod knows (who@I.am), June 12, 2000.

From: Preparations, ` la Carte (pic), near Monterey, California

Mod asks:Anyone remeber the original title to this classic moderator doctored thread?

It is clearly labeled throughout the thread that early posters were responding to the original title which is provided in bold at the beginning of each of those posts, and exactly when the moderator changed the title.

-- Dancr (addy.available@my.webpage), June 12, 2000.

LOL! Blasts from the past!

Pollyan... 'Optimists' REFUSE To Respond To The Facts Again.

I was "no rather@not.say" on that thread.

Why do pollyannas care what we GIs think?

I was "Doomslayer" on that thread.

-- Buddy (buddydc@go.com), June 12, 2000.

uh....dancr? I think you missed the irony in that post by "mod knows"

Buddy: LOL! you go, man!
