Quotably Quoted #23

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

Go placidly amid the rioters and refugees, and remember what safety there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on your guard with all persons. Shoot your gun efficiently and accurately; and listen for others, even the desperate and starving; they too want your food. Avoid armed and aggressive persons, they are vexations to your survival. If you consort with pollies, you may become desperate and hungry;for they will always be greater fools than yourself. Enjoy your rice as well as your beans. Keep interested in your own meals, however humble; they are real possessions in the collapsing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in all your affairs; for the world will be full of trickery, thievery, and murder. But let this not blind you to what virtue there will be, many persons will strive for high ideals; and everywhere life will be full of heroism.Be on guard. Especially, do not show weakness. Be cynical about love; for in the face of starvation and societal collapse it will be as genune as dead grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering nothing to the unprepared hordes. Nurture strength of spirit and have lots of ammo to shield you from sudden misfortune.Be sure to distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears will be well grounded. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with no one. For everyone must pull his weight. You are a child of TEOTWAWKI, no less than the pollies and the sheeple; you have every right to horde your preperations. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt TEOTWAWKI is unfolding according to plan. Therefore be at peace with God, no matter how much you may blame Him, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of collapse, keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,it is gonna be a hard world. Be careful.Strive to survive.

AR, a challenge for you. As noted on other threads, many of these "Quotable Quotes" of yours are from "mysterious" posters. Can you produce other posts from "Ralph Kramden (and@awaywego.com)" that might demonstrate he/she is not someone perhaps, um, close to you?

-- (I'm a@little.teapot), June 10, 2000.

I still enjoy these posts, and am sorry so many others do not. But, I got here late. I assume that some of you have a personal history with Andy Ray that somehow make these posts offensive to you?

Why don't you take your quotes from among those who were the top 30 posters at TB2000, Andy Ray? Then there would be no question as to whether you're posting stuff from doomers, or whether it's from pollys posting as doomers to see how doomers would react.

These one-shot posters you quote are questionable. I'm not familiar with most of them.

Whoops Andy. That ain't no doomer drivel. Somebody's laughing at themselves. Recognize it?- a knockoff, of this distinctly non-doomer guide for the conduct of life

DESIDERATA
Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others; even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career however humble; it is a real posession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy

Yet another parody of it...

http://www.amherst.edu/~tssulliv/school.htm

Go placidly amid the noise & haste, and remember what peace there may be in sleeping through breakfast. Do not speak the truth; it merely upsets the neighbors. Listen to others, even the dull & ignorant; they assign your grades & sign your paycheck.

Avoid loud & aggressive persons; the wise will be confused & silent. If you compare yourself to others, you may discover that those in authority are no better than yourself. Enjoy your plans; society will not let you achieve them.

Keep interested in your career, however boring; for your life will be little more than work. Exercise caution in all things; for the world is full of trickery. Let this blind you to what virtue is; you will never find any, and it is best to abandon hope while it can still be excised.

Pretend you are who society wants you to be. Especially, do not recognize the humanity of others. In the face of all love & kindness, others will merely complain about the color of your tie.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, and make sure you join AARP. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you from the fact that you are wasting your life. But do not distress yourself with reality. Much happiness is born of delusion & ignorance. Beyond church, ignore beauty & morality.

You are a child of the state, no less than the FDA & the IRS. You have a responsibility to pay your taxes & die in senseless wars. And whether or not it is clear to you, the state has no interest in your welfare & rights.

Therefore be at peace with Authority, in whatever manifestation He appears, and whatever your labors & position, in the noisy confusion of life make sure you observe all the laws.

With all its hope, ideals & religion, it is still a meaningless world. Be politically correct. Strive to make your boss happy.
