Hi Steve! Can't EVER thank you and your family and staff enough for the services you provide. This website and the magazine are just TERRIFIC! They show there is still some sanity in a world run amok with greed and waste. It feels like a kind, loving family. Wish I could attend this year's MREA but maybe next year. Will be there in spirit with you. Give us a good update.

Sorry Steve, A bit too far for us and no-one to take care of the animals. (the one down side of Homesteading!)

We too owe you a big "thank you". Remember that first Countryside get- together at Ken Sherabock's place? Well, I had just discovered the magazine and we had just bought our house. I wanted so much to go to the gathering but my hubby said: "No, we need to save money to put into our own homstead"! Then in his thick North Carolina accent he added, "You can git chew a goat if you want"

Now, 5 goats, a garden and a bunch of chickens later, we feel that we really are living the "good life". Best of all our little 5y/o son is growing up in a "real world" of values and satisfying productive work. He hasn't a clue as to what "Pokemon" is, but he can tell you all about the lifecycles of animals and plants. He knows good soil from bad. He doesn't whine and complain when it rains. Instead I hear "Oh, look, the plants will be SO happy!" The word "bored" never features in his vocabulary.

"Countryside", it's staff, and this forum have become a central part of our life. (The "Y2k countdown" especially is a virtual encyclopedia of survival skills and it's worth is priceless!)

We hope your father is enjoying his retirement and send our very best wishes for his health and happiness.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Ken, Pauline & Joshua

Steve,

I taught in Madison until last year (at the UW). We finally decided homesteading was a full time profession and now farm in the Ozarks. I sure wish we could meet you though! I'll email some of my old colleagues who are into sustainability and ask them to drop by!

Hey Steve! I'd absolutely just love to come on up there but---I'm so poor I can't pay attention! Can't pick up pop cans anymore--some old dude on s.s. has them all picked up! Drives his truck to pick up cans that sell for .26 a pound and $2.00 gasoline. A real money making venture. Have fun up there and good luck. Maybe next year we can come. Say "Hi" to you'rn Pappy" frum us'ns heer in South West Richland county, ILL. home of the workin poor! Matt. 24:44

I'd love to visit and would if MREA was in Amherst as it usually is because its less than 1 hr away. I've been to most of them and enjoyed them all. This year in Madison won't be possible, distance, traffic, parking etc. but enjoy and see you next year.

We plan to drive down Thursday night to be there when things open Friday, and then drive home Saturday, so we will try to stop and say hello. We hope to be staying in our VW bus, red-orange and white, in the vehicle/RV area, whereever that may be. Sounds like the camping situation will be quite different than in past years.
