Sports Thread.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

There are several posters on this forum who want to discuss sports, but feel a bit shy about presenting a thread on which sports discussions might take place.

I have no interest in discussing sports, but I'm not too shy to start a thread wherein folks who ARE interested can share thoughts on this subject.

Have fun, y'all.

Answers

Here's a start:

I only have a couple suggestions to offer which could make this forum even more interesting to me...

2) More sports news. This forum is sorely lacking in the sports department. Hey! How 'bout them Vikings!!

CD I see the Vikings signed Bryce Paup yesterday for the league minimum. He sure as hell wasn't worth the 12 million the Jags paid him to whine the last couple years. Here's hoping yall get more for your money than we did. The dude had one stinking sack last year!!

Deano

( Deano- All right! A football fan! (I assume you are a Jaguar fan?) Yes, the Vikings signed Paup to the league minimum of $440,000 with a $100,000 signing bonus (and incentives which could double that). He's a "whiner" huh? Hmmm. That doesn't sound good. Yeah, he had a couple lackluster seasons with Jacksonville but on the brighter side, the reports I get are that he was hampered by a torn right pectoral muscle all of last season. Also, instead of using him as a linebacker, the Vikes are going to place him at defensive end. When he was with Green Bay and Buffalo he guy was an incredible "sack- artist". Here's hoping he can regain his form. Go Deano! That's what I'm talkin' about. More sports! )

CD The Jags may not have used him as they should have. We 'whined' about that ourselves. He's a much better linebacker than he is a down- lineman. You could tell he was never 'happy' down here anyway. He was definitely a sack artist in his Buffalo days. Too bad he didn't do the same down here. But hey, we still have Dom Capers at the defensive helm and that alone moved us from 28th to 5th(?) in total defense over just one year.

Now, if we could just get that 2005 Super Bowl in our backyard......

---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- Deano old bud I think youll see Bruce play well for the Vikings. The inside NFL word is that most of the Jags are tired of playing for their dickhead coach who thinks hes running a Special Forces training depot. Granted, many of those guys could use a little discipline but not the brand they pass out on the Jags. But why fret? The Skins will rule this year and the Jags will once again fade at the end.

Devils win it all tomorrow night.

Let's go Mets.

Will the NY Rangers resign Mark Messier? And WHO will they name as their new Head Coach?

Will the Boston Red Sox put a stop to the Yankees dynasty this year, and finally take home a World Series trophy of their own?

Will the NY Jets and the NY Giants EVER ADMIT they actually play in NEW JERSEY?

PS..during the first game of the Devils-Stars STanley Cup series, at the Meadowlands in NJ, during the introductions of the Stars...the crowd was shouting "sucks" after each guys name. The commentator on ESPN stated "Well, thats New York for you" Um..Sir..not to nitpick or anything..but WRONG FREAKING STATE! (Maybe it's better if people believe that those not so nice fans really do all come from NY)

Looking forward to tomorrow nights game!

kritter,

Don't ya hate it when those over paid no nothing commentators get it wrong...LOL

I have to admit...my only sport passion is FOOTBALL! I think it has something to do with the season/s in general.

Yes, Peg..the combination of Autumn and Football works Sooo well together!! There is no better time of year, is there? That first crisp Sunday morning..and the sound of a referees whistle! Wholeheartedly agreed. I even like Football on the high school level. Going out on Saturday evening to sit on a cold steel bleacher, wrapped in a team blanket..and cheering yer own boy on the field. One of the few things I still love about America!

Costavike-

Are you from minnesota? I graduated from school there and lived in Mpls. and St. Paul for a while.

looking forward to getting the Vikes at Soldier Field this year, and the Bears/Vikes opener in Minnesota. I'd make fun of Daunte Culpepper, but we have enough problems with Cade McNown.

Bears should be fun to watch this year. we actually have speedy wideouts for the first time since Willie Gault and Dennis McKinnon in the mid-80's.

May not tailgate and stay sober for this years' game.

Not.

Are you from minnesota? -CJS

Lived there a couple years (near Rochester) but became a Viking fan while living in Iowa.

I'd make fun of Daunte Culpepper, but we have enough problems with Cade McNown.

LOL. I take it ol' Cade still has his "attitude problem"? Actually, the jury's still out regarding Culpepper. The kid has all the tools to eventually become a quality QB. He's big enough to play linebacker, faster than a lot of running backs and has the arm strength to reach Randy Moss on a full sprint. Since this is basically his rookie season it should be fun to see how he progresses over the course of the season.

Bears fan eh. It looks like your team is heading in the right direction. Coincidently, the Bears are the team I "love to hate". If I wasn't living so far from Chicago I'd love to join you for the battle in Soldier Field. I try to attend at least one live game per year. As it is, I think I'll be heading to Dallas on Thanksgiving Day to watch the Vikes feast on the Cowboys.

Attitude problem? ATTITUDE PROBLEM? Friends, my Chargers still have Ryan Leaf on the payroll, even though it is entirely likely that this truly phenomenal headcase may never play professional football again. You haven't seen bad attitude until you've caught young Ryan's act for weeks on end. I half-expected to pick up the paper one day and read that Junior Seau had finally had enough and had twisted Leaf's head off like a screwcap. I was ecstatic when they drafted Leaf and was excited going into his first season and it's been all downhill since then.

Love dah Bolts, though, and still think they've got a shot at the AFC West title this year. 8-8 last year with a new coach and system. Like our chances in a middling Western conference.

I miss Randy, I really really miss Randy. I miss Jr. too but think he might come back home. A-Rod is unused to having all of that responsibility put on him, but that ok couse the long ball hitters are still hitting long. Egger is really doing great and so is Bone. I slept through the game this afternoon because I had not been to bed since yesterday morning and missed looking for Sam in the seats. She was pretty excited about the two men on base and the guy behind the catcher going up and talking to the pitcher though during the eighth thingy? Had everybody scared she said.
