Suggestions.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

It's been an interesting week [perhaps even two] for some folks observing this forum. Not to suggest that every week isn't interesting, but I think this week has reflected more on the "mixed bag" of posters here than any week before. I think a "mixed bag" is good, BTW.

There seems to be some question about how the forum should move, or at least some reservations on how the forum HAS moved. Some folks want to discuss Y2k and see this as a strictly Y2k forum. They don't participate in discussions of other topics at all. Other folks don't want to discuss Y2k and don't see this as a Y2k forum, even though it has Y2k in the name. Other folks like to engage in discussions of Y2k and also engage in discussions on other topics. Some folks just want to chat about everyday stuff.

This thread is one where you can express YOUR interests. It's not meant for indepth discussion of any topic. It's simply meant as a place where folks can state in which direction they'd like to see the forum move, or if any move is seen necessary at all.

Anita: I like the way this forum is right now. I just wish I had more time to jump into some of the more interesting discussions, but seeing as I only check in a few times a week, I feel it would be foolish to be the 67th poster .

The esoteric discussions are great! But so are the news stories... It's quite an enjoyable place to be.

BTW: whoever coined the "you-know-what-2K" Bravo, Brava! ROTF...!!!

Anita,

I would like to see it continue to address (as is already has, to differing extents):

Philosophy, psychology, humor, sociology, history, sexual and gender issues (yes -- including the "Lilith" factor), politics, government, the rights of man, literature, art, music, movies, ethics, family issues, the sciences, religion, education, theology, the Bible, wild edible plants, feminism (as long as somebody gives a definition, such as the great one Normally gave on another thread), Y2K (yep -- but just once in a while for now), current events (well, depends what it is), how capnfun could possibly stand pizza and chocolate milk for breakfast, and almost anything else. I also hereby reserve the right to chat, and/or to get really silly -- maybe even outrageous -- once in a while.:)

Thanks for askin', 'Nita.

-- eve (eve_rebekah@yahoo.com), June 07, 2000.

I agree with Agent Smith. Even the old TB2000 was full of "off-topic" posts, especially after the rollover. People who want to see the forum "move" towards or away from certain topics need only post and reply to the topics of interest. I like the post-Y2K analysis as well as some of the political and scientific topics. Religion and philosophy are not really my bag, but sometimes I wander in there also.

I see no reason to narrow the focus of the forum. The original forum was about more than Y2K, I don't see any reason why this should have any such limitations.

I've always enjoyed the OT posts more, what is the topic, anyway?

-- Swampthing (in@the.swamp), June 07, 2000.

Anita:

I echo hmmm and swampthingy..lol.

I do get weary with y2over, but, I just go on up the threads, there are soo many good ones.

I dont wish to see this narrowed to y2k after ONLY.

I'm with Eve: I reserve my right to be silly.

I also reserve my right to be uncensored and at times...off the hook.

Anita, keep up the posts, your stories are so interesting, same w/eve.

All in all, I am used to this the way it is. And satisfied.

Thanks for 'asking'. I enjoyed Bok last nite as well.

warm and fuzzy regards,

sumer (the REAL one:-)

Looking at eve's synopsis-wow-we sure are an eclectic bunch-as the old saying goes-"if it's not broke, don't fix it".

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), June 07, 2000.

Interesting thread, Anita. I'll echo what has already basically been said, in so far as I'm enjoying the direction (or is that; "lack of direction"?) this forum has taken. I've enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts on both Y2k and the bazillion different topics that jump up here. To paraphrase somebody(?) who said long ago; the interesting part of all this is the fact that you can discuss/hear thoughts on subjects which would rarely, if ever, come up in your "real" daily life.

I only have a couple suggestions to offer which could make this forum even more interesting to me...

1) More posts from Eve in which she breathlessly portrays having an orgasm (ala Meg Ryan). (That *was* Eve who wrote that, wasn't it?)

2) More sports news. This forum is sorely lacking in the sports department. Hey! How 'bout them Vikings!!

Oh, and a few more pictures of Deborah once in a while would be nice. (By the way, she never did answer if she'd marry me or not. Will somebody please send her a message and remind her I'm still waiting for a response. Thanks.) And speaking of pictures, what's the hold-up with all you other folks? Flint, you reading this?

-- CD (costavike@hotmail.com), June 07, 2000.

Sounds good to me, Eve you said it perfectly, I don't have anything to add.

-- Cherri (sams@brigadoon.com), June 07, 2000.

CD

I see the Vikings signed Bryce Paup yesterday for the league minimum. He sure as hell wasn't worth the 12 million the Jags paid him to whine the last couple years. Here's hoping yall get more for your money than we did. The dude had one stinking sack last year!!

Deano

-- Deano (deano@luvthebeach.com), June 07, 2000.

AgentSmith:

Check out some of Deedah's threads sometime. Those suckers don't even get off the ground until the 68th post. After that, all hell breaks loose and a new thread must be started to continue the discussion.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), June 07, 2000.

Where's this orgasm post?

-- Swampthing (in@the.swamp), June 07, 2000.

Yep. For the most part, I like the forum just the way it is. If I had more time, I'd copy and paste more short news articles ... I'd like to see a few more threads about world events, in addition to what's already here.

I've also enjoyed the movie and book lists. I just picked up "Confederate in the Attic," (Did Frank suggest it? Anyway, Thanks!) which I wouldn't have known about, and that's the sign of a good forum for me: I come away with something new to think about or investigate.

-- (kb8um8@yahoo.com), June 07, 2000.

I have never had an online orgasm. Should I see a doc? Was it good for you Eve?

-- (nemesis@awol.com), June 07, 2000.

( Deano- All right! A football fan! (I assume you are a Jaguar fan?) Yes, the Vikings signed Paup to the league minimum of $440,000 with a $100,000 signing bonus (and incentives which could double that). He's a "whiner" huh? Hmmm. That doesn't sound good. Yeah, he had a couple lackluster seasons with Jacksonville but on the brighter side, the reports I get are that he was hampered by a torn right pectoral muscle all of last season. Also, instead of using him as a linebacker, the Vikes are going to place him at defensive end. When he was with Green Bay and Buffalo he guy was an incredible "sack- artist". Here's hoping he can regain his form.

Go Deano! That's what I'm talkin' about. More sports! )

Sorry for the detour 'Nita. Now then, back to your thread...

CD:

What's to stop you from presenting a sports thread? HUH?

We chatted about this a bit last night in Bok's room. Everyone kinda sits and WAITS for a topic to be presented that interests them, and I confess to having done this for too long myself.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), June 07, 2000.

CD

The Jags may not have used him as they should have. We 'whined' about that ourselves. He's a much better linebacker than he is a down-lineman. You could tell he was never 'happy' down here anyway. He was definitely a sack artist in his Buffalo days. Too bad he didn't do the same down here. But hey, we still have Dom Capers at the defensive helm and that alone moved us from 28th to 5th(?) in total defense over just one year.

Now, if we could just get that 2005 Super Bowl in our backyard......

What's to stop you from presenting a sports thread? HUH?

Uh... Er... Ya but... Hmmm... Good point, Anita.

-- CD (costavike@hotmail.com), June 07, 2000.

Deano old bud I think youll see Bruce play well for the Vikings. The inside NFL word is that most of the Jags are tired of playing for their dickhead coach who thinks hes running a Special Forces training depot. Granted, many of those guys could use a little discipline but not the brand they pass out on the Jags. But why fret? The Skins will rule this year and the Jags will once again fade at the end.

-- The (fact@fan.attic), June 07, 2000.

There is now a sports thread that can take off where attic left off. See how easy that was?

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), June 07, 2000.

Thanks CD, that Eve has a way with words!

-- Swampthing (in@the.swamp), June 07, 2000.

I think this board is fine, just the way it is.

-- (retired@nd.happy), June 07, 2000.

Thanks, guys, for your appreciation of my...um...well...you know...THAT post. Actually, I would have classified it under theology/sexual issues.

And I thought Debra's running to my aid with the suggestion that I use an inhaler was so very thoughtful of her. Thank you, Debra.:)

-- eve (eve_rebekah@yahoo.com), June 07, 2000.

To me, one of the best things about this board is that it is a place to solicit help, advice and information. There is alot of expertise here and it's for free.

-- Lars (lars@indy.net), June 07, 2000.

Eve, you are too kind (concerning "my definition"). I love the variety in this forum...of topics, styles, people. The philosophy and odd-twist subjects attract me, the great writing always entertains -- You never know which thread will delight with that perfect one liner or a well-developed argument.

I miss Brian Imager's Tao stuff and Liberty at the Ready's patriotic fire. Usually, I don't get moved to contribute until a thread has over 90 posts on it, and I am one of the last ones; by then, who cares? It is nice to be in the big leagues, with folks smarter than me kicking the tires.

I miss Mutha...one of the most important voices of reason for me.

-- Peg (pegmcleod@mediaone.net), June 07, 2000.

The (fact)??

First off, the guy's name is Bryce. You reading the sports section in Soap Opera Digest again??

Ol' Coach Tom has mellowed the last couple years my friend. Granted, he was an iron-fist ruler the first season and he learned from it. Things have changed down here quite a bit, believe it or not.

Jags fade at the end??? Are you from like, Earth?? You have a team that's a whole 5 years old and has been to the AFC Championship twice. Has only missed the playoffs once, and that was in the very first year. I'm thinking there's about 25 other teams that would love to 'fade at the end' like that.

It's obvious to anyone that knows anything about the game of football that Coach Coughlin is doing something right. All we gotta do is learn how to beat Tennessee.......

Next??

This forum is kinda like a cyber Cheers where you can drop in a find all manners of interesting folks with a wide spectrum of viewpoints. And just like the neighborhood bar an occasional fight will break out only to calm back down to normal. Who cares what the subjects are? IMO, the most important issue is avoiding the problem that plagued the old forum, which was the forming of a clique or royalty if you will. A few people that take it upon themselves to run the show and direct others towards their perceived concept of how things should be. Keep it free, keep it loose, keep it as it is!

-- Ra (tion@l.1), June 08, 2000.

I love Cheers!!! NORM!!!

SAM: "What's shaking Norm?" NORM: "All four cheeks & a couple of chins."

SAM: "What's new Norm?" NORM: "Terrorists, Sam. They've taken over my stomach & they're demanding beer."

SAM: "What'd you like Normie?" NORM: "A reason to live. Give me another beer."

SAM: "What'll you have Normie?" NORM: "Well, I'm in a gambling mood Sammy. I'll take a glass of whatever comes out of that tap." SAM: "Looks like beer, Norm." NORM: "Call me Mister Lucky."

SAM: "Hey Norm, how's the world been treating you?" NORM: "Like a baby treats a diaper."

WOODY: "What's the story Mr. Peterson?" NORM: "The Bobbsey twins go to the brewery. Let's cut to the happy ending."

WOODY: "Hey Mr. Peterson, there's a cold one waiting for you." NORM: "I know, if she calls, I'm not here."

SAM: "Beer, Norm?" NORM: "Have I gotten that predictable? Good."

SAM: "Whatcha up to Norm?" NORM: "My ideal weight if I were eleven feet tall."

WOODY: "How's it going Mr. Peterson?" NORM: "Poor." WOODY: "I'm sorry to hear that." NORM: "No, I mean pour."

SAM: "How's life treating you Norm?" NORM: "Like it caught me sleeping with its wife."

SAM: "What's going down, Normie?" NORM: "My butt cheeks on that bar stool."

WOODY: "Pour you a beer, Mr. Peterson?" NORM: "All right, but stop me at one.... make that one-thirty."

WOODY: "How's it going Mr. Peterson?" NORM: "It's a dog eat dog world, Woody and I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear."

SAM: "What's the story Norm?" NORM: "Boy meets beer. Boy drinks beer. Boy meets another beer."

WOODY: "What's going on Mr. Peterson?" NORM: "The question is what's going in Mr. Peterson? A beer please, Woody."

WOODY: "Can I pour you a beer Mr. Peterson?" NORM: "A little early isn't it, Woody?" WOODY: "For a beer?" NORM: "No, for stupid questions."

Some of the best comedy writers ever.......I miss that show.....
