June 7, 2000 Delta 2 rocket launch delayed FLORIDA TODAY The June 21 launch of a Delta 2 rocket has been delayed so The Boeing Co. and the Air Force can work out a technical problem with the rocket.

The problem emerged at Cape Canaveral two weeks ago when an Air Force-Boeing team was mating parts of the rocket, Boeing spokesman Walt Rice said Tuesday from Huntington Beach, Calif.

Once the technical issue is resolved, a date will be set, Rice said. He did not speculate on when that date might be.

When launched, the Boeing-built rocket is to carry a Navstar Global Positioning System satellite into space for the Air Force.

Used worldwide, the GPS navigation system is relied upon by millions of people, ranging from pilots to parents tracking their children.
