Cut Cables Disrupt Phones

About seventy-thousand G-T-E customers were without phone service yesterday for several hours and that included 9-1-1. According to reports, two cables were cut in Chesapeake, which caused problems in that city as well as Franklin and some parts of Virginia Beach. In Franklin, without the 9-1-1 system, police and fire and rescue personnel patrolled neighborhoods in case of an emergency. The service was back up at about 1:30.
