LR the season in the mid seventies when your club went down didn't you average 12000?

Also as a fan who went when we were shite, only one time has there been a crowd of 10004 against Oxford on an April wednesday night, pissing down with rain, whilst playing for nowt in Div2. The game itself got abandoned at half time! In that season we averaged 16000 - probably our lowest ever average in the 20th centuary. 16000 beats 12000, dont it?

That f....g Oxford game is ALL they ever quote. What gets me is the selective amnesia about how shite attendances were generally in the 80s. Look at Arsenal. Haven't been out of the top flight and have won things in living memory but would get crowds of about 25000. This is the biggest club in the biggest city in Europe, remember. I don't think people realise that Newcastle is a really small city (about 16th biggest??), has had crippling unemployment, shares its biggest supporting population catchment with two other PL clubs and umpteen lower division sides, and has had the worst management of any club in the English league.

Remember Dougal Newcastle dont get there support from just the city itself. It has all North of the tyne to carlisle to Berwick, and 65% of South tyneside (from gatshead to south shields)that could be about a million localised fans - the biggest local catchment area in England. Newcastle itself only has a population of 270000

Only Man Utd give themselves the name the biggest club in europe. Fuck Man Utd it's Barcelona and Real Madrid before them.

If we had half there london support we would be bigger than Manure. LR is only bitching because he realises that Newcastle is their real biggest threat (ahead of massive clubs like Liverpool, and the two glasgow clubs when they eventually join the premier league) in Britain who can really end their dominance.

Jools has offered me a spare ST..and I've said ok, but I also have my own LMTB (League Match Ticket Book) wich is a season ticket for want of a better word.

It's no myth about our support Douggie. It can be backed up by archive records. Over the last 30 odd years we have out-supported EVERYONE and there is absolutely zero way our average in '74 was 12,000!!!...The next season in Div 2 we were averaging 50,000!!
