Illinois man dies at oil refinery

WHITING, Ind. (AP) - A coke unit operator from Illinois died Sunday after he was injured at the BP Amoco refinery, officials said.

The exact details of Cedric Norwood's death would not be available until Monday, according to the Lake County coroner's office.

Refinery spokesman Tom Keilman said Norwood, 47, of Dolton, Ill., suffered an injury to his lower abdomen while on the job early Sunday. He was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago.

The coke unit Norwood was operating will be shut down until the investigation is completed, Keilman said.
