Would love to get back to the country life. If you have something like this for sale, or know someone that may, please let us know. Even though it would be a straight sale and not an assumption, check out a web site called http://www.landinalaska.com , there are some excellent parcels of land up here really reasonably priced, the Mat- Su Borough has good weather and there are lots of little town all around if you want to be near one.

You can also buy land so remote that it takes a float plane or ATV to get to....

Careful there Clayton! My friend picked up a bargin, near Killington VT. about 8 years ago, the owner held the note, then didn't pay the taxes! The owner tried to buy the place back after all the work had been done. Hate to say it, but a handshake just ain't what it used to be! Make sure you have everything in writing, then GO for it!

Dave, I don't know what you consider reasonably priced!! I just looked at the site, and prices are pretty high!

Clayton, You need to consider buying a place "on contract", this is a legal contract where you make a down payment, monthly payments plus interest and the owner carries the note. You can contact local realtors explaining what you want and how you wish to buy. Or you can advertise in a local newspaper asking to buy on contract. Many older people would like the montly payments with more interest than a certificate of deposit plus they do get the property back if you fail to pay it off. Just an alternative idea, I have bought two places that way and it is very nice for anyone with less than perfect credit or only a small amount of money for a down payment. karen

Try going to Egroups or http://www.onelist.com, join, then find the homedairygoats talk list, join or go to the archives, about a month ago there was a lady named Kathy near Charlottsville who had a farm for sale. If you join just ask about the lady who had the farm in Abermarle county. Hope this helps. Bernice
