I was relieved to hear that everything was OK. It's funny--I generally don't think too much about people who write online journals when I'm offline, since the relationship is virtual and we're all-but-anonymous to each other, but I found myself thinking and worrying about you all week. I am very, very glad for you.

When my parents divorced after 40 years I just gave up on everything I believed in, especially marriage and fidelity. Alan and I had been married for five years. It took a lot of persuasion on his part to make me realize that not all men were untrustworthy and not all marriages are doomed to failure. We're in pretty damned good shape now that we've looked at my parents' mistakes, and we plan to stay that way, thanks very much. Part of it is that both people have to realize that what they have is valuable and they can't possibly afford to destroy it. My father was a jerk and an idiot for not comprehending this. Alan is a hell of a lot smarter than that.
