Silly season starting early

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TB2K spinoff uncensored : One Thread

Every discussion forum or newsgroup I have been involved with over the past 10 years has suffered from a summer lull. Number of posts drop to half the winter highs, or less. Discussions get more aimless or silly.

Looks like this forum is drifting into silly season a bit early this year. We'll see if the lull is a temporary seasonal fade, or if the discussion sharpens up in the autumn. Until then we have al-d and the many Manny clones that have been springing up to keep us fat, dumb and stirred up.

Starting next week, I'll be gone for several long stretches. However, I will be back. As long as I can wring a drop of enjoyment out of this place, I will stick around.

Hey! When you pissed your pants, you leaked all over the forum!! Do us all a favor and just LEAVE!

-- (NOT @ fan of .Brian), May 15, 2000.

Adios Brian:

As I mentioned earlier, I will begin moving about in a week. I will check in when I am home; it is too expensive to do it from Europe and Africa; looks like South America too [recent development]. Have fun.

Best wishes,,,,

Z

I agree with you Brian, this forum has definitely declined in intellectual quality the past few weeks. You're leaving is not going to help it either. The trolls are taking over it like fungus, pushing out intelligent life.

Enjoy your summer. I will too.

Oh sh### I just started a new thread similar to this one...

Sorry guys/gals.

Now for the rest of the attack morons, go head....flame on...

I'm outtie....

To the one who is also going away, good luck, keep in touch, I'll miss you both.

You know, Z, I have never been to Europe, nor Africa. Hint hint, nudge nudge wink wink. =)

Brian:

Have a good time away from the computer. It'll help realign your outlook for what's real in the world :^). I'll miss your posts while you're gone.

-- Jim Cooke (JJCooke@yahoo.com), May 15, 2000.

Summer IS always troll season. The kids are out of school and the "regulars" spend more time outdoors. We've had beautiful weather here for quite a while now. In fact, summer is already pretty much here with the heat already throwing folks back inside. My lettuce plants are drying up. Their season is past.

I'm with you, Brian. The trolls don't bother me one bit.

Enjoy yourself, Brian. You're one of the good ones.

Best said, Peter.

Thanks all, for the good wishes. I return them. As for my contra-fans, I am truly honored by your enmity. I'm not sure I'm worth it, by the time I've filtered through to your CRT.

My first stint away will be a professional conference in (ugh!) Orlando. The second stint is (oh, blessed relief!) will be in Western Ireland until mid-June. Never been there before. it's the first trip abroad my wife and I have taken in 20 years, since before the marriage. I'm certain we will love it. It's about as far away from high tech as you can get and still be somewhere in the European umbra.

I'll probably post here and there until Friday. Then it's about a month or so incommunicado.

-- Brian McLaughlin (brianm@ims.com), May 16, 2000.

Brian:

Watch out for Orlando. It's the lightning strike capital of the US :^). I do hope to get to Ireland sometime in the next several years to do some family research in County Mayo. I'll be interested to hear your experiences when you return.

I get to take my vacation starting May 26th and I'll be gone through June 18. (Pause for cheers of those who won't be heartbroken.) We are going to the Cook Islands where my son is getting married. We thought that the Cook Islands would be a good place given our name and the distance cuts down on the riffraff showing up to drink at the reception. We're then going on to Fiji for 15 days on a sailboat sailing and diving in the Yasawa Islands.

Hmmmm.....at least, I'm supposed to return on the 18th but you never know once you get to the tropics.

How many have recently left, or are planning to leave, even if temporarily? There are so many threads, it is hard for me to keep up with them all, but I dont want to miss saying goodbye to some I may have missed.

-- Normally (Oxsys@aol.com), May 16, 2000.

Brian,Jim,Z,

Sorry your'e leavin' but appreciative of the need/want to get away(but especially you Jim,I'm a tropical kinda guy),you will be missed and we will expect your eventual return(except maybe Jim ; ) ) Safety in your travels my friends.

Z,

Before you leave,if you can, please send me one or more of your questions,I have been intrigued by the challenge/quandry sinse first discussed. At least this way it may give me some time to gather my thoughts in a less time driven fashion. If not now,I am patient.

Normally,

Good to see you, where have you been? Hopefully we will all get some time to adventure this summer, hopefully we will all return to tell our tales, hang out more often and speak up,it's nice to know your here.

Capn, Just addressin' the yellow brick road and got lost in the poppy field for a little while. Seems like there's some poppies on this forum too, eh? And good stuff worth coming back to. So many here contribute what I need to reconstruct my day. To those who count, if you're gonna go, don't stay away too long.

-- Normally (Oxsys@aol.com), May 16, 2000.

Brian & Jim,

You do not have my permission to leave UNLESS you conjure Craig or someone else to take care of lil' al while you're gone.

-- flora (***@__._), May 16, 2000.

>> You do not have my permission to leave UNLESS you conjure Craig or someone else to take care of lil' al while you're gone. <<

No forceonearth will keep al-d from posting. So try this. While I am gone, each time Al posts, post back:

"Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I know, Al. I know. What else is new?"

If repeated often enough, this may obtain the cache of a Saturday Night Live catch phrase. Or maybe, just possibly, if we're lucky, it will be remembered up there with "Do you mudwrestle?" There could be no finer epitaph.

-- Brian McLaughlin (brianm@ims.com), May 16, 2000.

Flora,

Brian's got exactly the right idea. Every time Al posts, write back and ask him if mudwrestles. You could be our new female Squirrel Hunter. :^)

-- Jim Cooke (JJCooke@yahoo.com), May 16, 2000.

Thanks for the tips fellas {though I was partial to needlepoint}.

When you gaze at those pretty picture postcards & wish you could send one to us at the forum, realize we would send one back saying:

"Having a wonderful time. Wish you were here!"

-- flora (***@__._), May 17, 2000.

Capn Fun started a similar saying, and since its summer (almost) I prefer the 'Wanna sandwrestle, neeked of course'

That 'might' do it.

Watch out for florida, correctly put, went there and did not know it is lightening capitol of the world... And I am terrified of lightening. Loved florida, but a bit on the buggy side for me.

FWIW IF the bug is big enough for me to put a saddle on, I get a lil nervous, like the one which fell out of my shoe in the motel room.

PS DOES anyone wanna sand-wrestle? LOL
