I should have known better...(rapid changes in the weather)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Friday I had my son carry all the stove wood piled up by the woodstove back out to the wood pile. Today we had to bring it back in because it's 40 degrees and we're freezing in the house! We put screens on some of the windows and with a northwest wind it is COLD! Yesterday it was 80!! We'll probably get the house heated up and it will get hot again. That's spring in IL for ya.

We've been having the same kind of weather in NH, so I know what you mean. I've been using the stove today, too.

I'm gonna build a fire in the fireplace tonight. Might as well enjoy that well I can!

Last week it was cold here (new snow and lows near 40 at night) but today was nice and warm. I mowed the lawn in my shorts! What, are we trading weather these days?????

It has been in the 80's and 90's here. Yesterday it got cold, and last night it apparently got colder than the 37F they predicted. Only had one pepper plant die. Tonight the vegetables and flowers are covered. Not easy with the wind blowing in excess of 30mph, sustained. Brrr. Gerbil

Lucky You! all! We had 20 degrees last night and it hailed and crept up to 45 today. Keep the fire stoked in the greenhouse! It could be worse. Jill schreiber@santanet.com

i live in new hampshire as well. been debating for a few days whether to take the firewood outside and clean up the wood stove, did get all the screens washed and ready to go in, but i have a feeling we will be hit with some low temps if i do it. seems to work that way for me, get ready for warm weather and we get a late snow storm. oh well, it's new england. laura

We're keeping the firewood in! Last weekend we had 90+, hot & humid, if we reach 60 today it will be nice. Yesterday we had 2 sets of thunderstorms go thru, hail, 50+mph winds & lots of rain, the second storm stirred up a tornado about 60 miles east of us. I'm still trying to get in touch with a friend who lives in that area. (E.PA.) The next several nights will be in the low 40s, I do believe we'll bring in more wood for the stove. Happy Mothers' Day to all!!!

Last week we had temps in the upper 80's and last night we had a light frost in Central Missouri. How fun is that?

LOL, you have to wait 'til tommorow for a change, Gene? I started out comfortable in a cotton gauze skirt set this morning, and was in jeans and a sweatshirt by this afternoon, and was still cold. Oh, well, we will probably all be complaining about being too hot and dry in another month. ;-)

We've had such hot weather for the past 2 weeks it was more like August in Alabama instead of May! But Saturday night it turned cooler so we're now having weather more like May.

Our main need right now is rain! We're having to water the garden every day because it has been so hot and dry!

We had two late frosts this year too so I had to replant several things. Last year I already had a "mess" of squash by this week in May but now I only have two squash plants with blooms on them because I had to replant after the frost killed so many even tho we had them covered!!!

But I guess that's some of what makes life on a homestead so enjoyable...you never know what the weather will bring! At least my Angoras are enjoying this cooler weather today!!!

Well, the day before yesterday it went into the mid-nineties here in North Florida but only hit about 90 degrees yesterday and will likely do the same today. Had some rough weather pass to the North of us yesterday and it got me excited that we'd get some rain. We did, a very spare 1/10th of an inch. Better than nothing, I suppose, at least it'll green the grass for a few days and reduce the fire dangers a mite.

Naturally, since I wasn't expecting it to rain while we were at the grocery I left the baby's playpen out. I put her in the playpen so she can watch me in the garden and it seems to make her happy to be outside. Came home to find the pen, the blanket cover and all the toys soaked!
