Cokin "P" Filter Holder/Hitech, Singh Ray Filters

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

Since the Cokin P filter holder is inexpensive (compared to Lee and Hitech), and Hitech and Singh Ray both make excellent filters to fit it, is there any good reason not to use the Cokin holder with these other filters? Am I missing something?

yes: larger filters also more durable construction.

I use the Cokin P holder with Singh-Ray and Tiffen filters. Camera Bellows (Lee's Bellows division) makes a self supporting bellow lens hood for the Cokin P that is very nice. As Ellis points out, the advantage of the Lee system is that it is larger, but for me, the advantage of the Cokin P is that it is smaller and lighter. Durability hasn't been a problem, and you can buy a replacement just about anywhere.

You can also buy a self supporting bellows hood that attaches to the front of the Cokin P filter holder from a company in Great Britain, whose website is www.srbfilm.co.uk. I use that combination plus a universal mounting ring that uses three nylon screws to fit snugly against the outside of all but one of four lenses. Jim Worthington
