Snipped from an AP story carried on CNN about the fire at Los Alamos, NM. Whole story available at

CNN Interactive

"It's black and white and brown and it's all trailing toward the town site," said Anna Casperson, owner of the Castillo del Alba bed and breakfast in nearby White Rock.

"This is the least we could do," she said. "I have all this food left over from Y2K."

Wonder if it is anyone we know.

Best wishes,,,,

Second try. Lost a line first time.

"It's black and white and brown and it's all trailing toward the town site," said Anna Casperson, owner of the Castillo del Alba bed and breakfast in nearby White Rock. Casperson said she was opening up her bed and breakfast free of charge to anyone who was displaced.

"This is the least we could do," she said. "I have all this food left over from Y2K."

Hope that is better.

Thanks, Z. I just spoke with a client near Los Alamos. He said winds were gusting to 60 mph today. I've never experienced a raging wildfire. Here's hoping I never do.

Best,

Z1X4Y7,

Don't worry, someone will be all over this like a fly on sugar.(Was going to use another word besides sugar but thought I'd be polite.)

Just goes to prove, being prepared doesn't hurt. One never knows when "it's" gonna hit the fan.

Bingo1:

Right, I have worked on firelines in the central rockies [when you are young you do stupid things]. Wind gusts up to 100 mph; whole groups of trees just explode into flames. You don't really accomplish much under those conditions; you do what you can [without getting killed] and wait for conditions to improve.

Best wishes,,,,,

Massive fire... we have seen the smoke plume here in ABQ for days... 400 homes burnt up... someone in the Fed. Gov. is probably looking for a job right now as this started out as a "controlled burn" at Bandelier National Monument... Any bonehead who tries a controlled burn in the spring time in NM needs to have their head examined...

Can you say wind??? 30-50 MPH wind???

They are evacuating Espanola, NM today... 40,000 acres burnt so far...

growlin' at the TV...

Hang on tight Dog. Working on a three year drought I can't see any good news soon. Same here. Lost a rental in the Laguna Canyon fire a few years ago. 30 minutes and it was all over for 200+ homes.

Read that mid pacific ocean temps are coming up. Might help us next winter.

Anybody else here remember the "controlled burn" in Yellowstone National Park?

It would appear that whoever authorized this burn wasn't paying attention then.

OMG...

Just saw on CNN, Dog, how close are you to this? I cant imagine the losses....Feel very badly for those who have lost homes.

I dont live in places like that, live in N.E. Ohio, it has been real warm here though, above average for 'us'.

I'm concerned also about electricty being 'rationed' I feel bad for those in REAL hot places as well...

Hope all is ok Dog, keep growling dog, and stay OFF the porch.

I live about 40 miles from Los Alamos to the south. The fire is moving to the NE away from Los Alamos. BIG plume of smoke can been seen in the distance from my house... Ruidoso and Las Vegas, NM also have fires right now. Hope the winds die down soon... and I hope they don't shift...

HELL on earth by the video feeds I have seen.

Growlin' at the park ranger...
