updating dive in head first?

I asked for your opinions about going $175 k into debt to by the in-law's hog farm - this was about a month ago(?). News is I decided against it. Will continue to teach and work into full-time farming (homesteading) gradually. This is really a big relief; I never had a good feeling about the propostion. And 175 k in debt? YUCK! That's easy to say now that I've made the decision, but it was a bit of a gut-wrencher. At any rate, I think there are ways to make the payments and keep the property in the family. We'll have to be creative! Thanks for the comments and advice.

$175k would would have been a lot of debt. I hope you're able to figure out how to keep the property in the family somehow. good luck Gerbil

Congratulations on being happy with your decision. $175 K is a lot of hogs. Maybe a smaller number could start you out! I never had a family farm so am not sure what I would do, but didn't have too much trouble selling the family home when we had to. Emotional, yes, but necessary as no-one wanted to live there.

Thanks for the update. Your question really resonated within me and I kind of had you in the back of my mind, wondering or even worrying about you. From the little you shared, I feel you made the correct choice. Now you have taken a stand, perhaps the rest of the family members will become more flexible and hopefully they will bend and deed you some of the land -- a few acres cut off or a percentage of the whole -- in return for the work you have been doing and with the future in mind.
