Rustenburg - Two men were seriously injured when a goods train carrying duff-chrome collided with an empty stationery train on the Rooiheuwel line outside Rustenburg on Tuesday afternoon.

Spoornet spokesperson Mike Asefovitz said the driver and his assistant were both seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

He said 13 locomotives carrying the duff-chrome as well as five empty locomotives derailed.

The line was also damaged.

He said the chrome did not pose any threat to the environment.

The line should be re-opened within 24 hours, he said on Tuesday evening. - Sapa
