HAVANA (AP) -- A train transporting tons of sugar in eastern Cuba slammed into another one stopped on the track, killing at least three railroad workers, state media said Friday.
The accident occurred Thursday outside the town of Cristino Naranjo, about 700 kilometers (430 miles) east of Havana in Holguin province, government radio and newspapers said.
Rail traffic in the region had to be diverted because the tracks were severely damaged, and were blocked by a severely damaged locomotive and mounds of spilled sugar.
