-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), May 06, 2000.

Well,works fine on the pc.

Any explanations?

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), May 06, 2000.

it loads just fine but why do i feel like shit

-- cin (cin@cin.cin), May 06, 2000.

Can't really say, capn.

I for one wish Macs had taken over the world instead of WinTel. In the late 80's, when still in school, I wanted a home Mac worse than anything. But they were $10,000 for a decent system then....a bit champagne-rich for a beer wallet.

We got stuck with Gatesville.

Now dis guy works on the damn things. For better or worse. (Rrrrr.)

-- Chicken Little (panic@forthebirds.net), May 06, 2000.

How MEAN of dat nasty ol billgates to let you buy computers for less then ten grand!

He needs to go to jail for that crime against hoomanity!

-- ah (feel@yer.pain), May 06, 2000.

Cin,

"Was this kinda mornin' really was that kinda night?"

CL,

I don't know if it's a Mac thang or not,1st time Iv'e seen it happen.I do love my Mac,the pc in comparison just doesn't cut da mustard and windows sucks.

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), May 06, 2000.

Where to start.

capn,

Agreed. But seeing as how 252% of the public uses WinBlows, this phone would ring rarely if didn't cater to that market. Sux, but that's de facts.

No Gates fan here, that's for certain. Any company that KNOWS it caters to security holes, and viruses that can cause -- have caused -- billions of dollars in lost revenue, but refuses to remedy the situation in the interest of "neat consumer features", is beneath respect.

ah-feel,

That was the price for a Mac + monitor + printer in 1989-90. The price for a Windows machine was similarly ridiculous, though not quite as high. Evidently you haven't been following computer prices for very long.

See comments above. I still feel that Gates & Co. have done the entire industry a positive disservice by leaving the average user wide open to security/virus intrusions that cost billions in lost productivity every single year. These are irrefutable FACTS. Er, PAST facts. HISTORY. It has HAPPENED, already.

Gates has been responsible for lower computer prices? Yep. And "you get what you pay for".

-- Chicken Little (panic@forthebirds.net), May 06, 2000.

Long enough to know your right but then again I allways go for the quality when possible.Allthough I like the Mac better I like having the knowledge of both,it does come in handy.

-- capnfun (capnfun1@excite.com), May 06, 2000.

good viewpoint there capn

soon will have 3 Wintel mochines here (latter 2 from spare/inherited parts)....gonna put Linux on one, for sure

maybe time to get that long-wished-for Mac, eh

they certainly don't cost 10 grand now

Capnfun, that thread crashed my Netscape last night also and I'm on a PC. But when I restarted NS and loaded the thread again, it was fine.

I thought it was just my NS acting up since I had several windows open and a couple had java. I'll look into it.

-- Old TB2K Forum Regular (freespeech@yahoo.com), May 06, 2000.

Cap,

Yes, it happened to me too, twice in fact. I use Netscape and a PC.

-- Ugh! (moitoo@crashed.com), May 06, 2000.

Cap,

It crashed my Netscape browser as well, but ran fine with Explorer. I use Netscape as my default browser, but keep explorer on hand just for cases like this. There are also some sites that run well on Netscape, but crash with explorer.

---o my aching head.

-- consumer (shh@aol.com), May 06, 2000.

If you paid ten grand for an Intel machine back then, someone saw you coming and shook you by the ankles before sending you limping home.

If I wasn't following prices back then, maybe it was because I was too busy building and selling machines. Ten grand? Wow, I guess I ripped myself off. I let 'em go for about $1,800, loaded. Different planets, perhaps?

You may despise Gates -- and you may enjoy having his success punished by The Most Ethical Administration In History -- but the incontrovertable fact remains that if not for what his company did, we never would have made it much past the era of the $4,000 CP/M boxes.

He nearly single-handedly created a MARKET that transcended the chicken/egg connundrum. Thousands of software and hardware developers jumped on board, countless fortunes were made, families provided for, careers jump-started, and an entire industry flourished.

Yeah, nail 'im to the wall. No good deed shall go unpunished.
