If you want to "expand your horizons," put in a few tabletop or LARP games. These are games like D&D, Vampire: the Masquerade, and Abberant(sp?). These games usually involve dice and character sheets, and are not playstation games at all. However, they are more familiar to me than video game RPGs are.

Here's an example: Leets say we are playing Word Association. When you say "Role Playing Game" I would say "Mind's Eye Theatre." If you said "Dice" I'd say "Tabletop." If you said "Queen" I'd either say "A Kind of Magic" or "Takhisis." (sp?)

My point is that RPGs are not just video games. To most people, they are games where you act out a character. These games have gotten a bad rep, but it is largely misunderstood. I think part of the reason not too many people come to this board is that the title is misleading... I came here all ready to discuss the White Wolf game books about the Year of the Reckoning, the destruction of the Clan Tremere Antitribu, to ask seasoned D&D players what characters to get started with, and to ask for hints people could give me for the WtA (Werewolf: the Apocalypse) Live Action game I'm currently in charge of.

I have an idea! Go to these web pages to learn what an RPG really is!

For D&D (Dungeons and Dragons) go to this site: http://www.darkholmeekeep.com

For White Wolf, go to their official page: http://www.white-wolf.com/

Actually, if you REALLY want to know what an RPG is, just go to http://www.lycos.com and type in RPG, then hit SEARCH. I can almost guarantee there will be no Playstation games listed, but plenty of actual RPG games... real RPGs.
