Scotland: Computer blamed for loss of library fines

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Grassroots Information Coordination Center (GICC) : One Thread

A "discredited" computer system has led to many people escaping fines for overdue
library material and has been blamed for
contributing to a #180,000 shortfall in
Edinburgh City Council's book and
audio-lending service.

The conversion of data during August and
September last year had been "fraught with
difficulties" which further impaired the ability of staff to identify and collect
income.
