EOS dont fire sometimes??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hi, I recently bought a Canon EOS 500n (Rebel XS) and while out shooting the camera was acting a little odd..when I depressed the button to take a pic..the shutter popped up and stayed there...it would not come down till I depressed the button again...The photo was not taken, but it would not allow the camera to fire..the speed was 1/350 and f11...bright sunny day.It reminded me of the "B" setting on my old AV1..Am I doing somthing wrong??? This was an intermitting problem, but just seems to happen more often now.I was wondering if it was anything to do with the focusing of the "Auto Focus" on the camera, that if it was not focusing properly then the camera would not Fire???

Many thanks for your help..it is certainially needed

It ain't rocket science to figure out that you should take it back to where you bought it, if possible, or contact Canon and ask how it will go about being replaced or repaired. This is not a normal function and has nothing to do with the AF or any other user controled setting.

There is another possibility: you are using a third party lens that causes that problem. I know that my Tokina ATX PRO II (28-70mm) does that to my EOS A2.

Ask Canon about the problem, but if you are using a third pary lens, Canon will ask you to call the lens manufacturer.
