ElanIIe and Sunpak flash

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I want to use a Sunpak 4000Z AF flash off-camera on the EOS Elan IIe.

Can I just use the dedicated remote cord? Or do I need to use both the dedicated remote cord AND the dedicated interface module?

It's my understanding that you can use the off camera shoe cord 2 on that camera...if it has the matching small 4 terminals. These cost $57 at B&H. You might want to check with them to verify. I will look for the instructions that came with my cord and get back if this is incorrect.

Most Sunpack flashes use dedicated modules to interface the same flash with different camera brands. If this is the module you are asking about, yes, you need it. You will of course need Canon's Off Camera Shoe Cord 2 as well, unless you need the flash a great distance from the camera. In that case, you would need the TTL distributer, connecting cords, etc.

I'll be receiving a PZ4000 unit this week I purchased through an ad on photo.net classifieds, and it was listed as dedicated to Canon EOS...it is my understanding that these units come with the module built into the unit. Is that correct or am I in error?

I owned a Sunpak 4000 built for Canon. The Canon interface is built in. There is nothing to add.
