N.Y., N.J. Rail Commuters Face Delays After Amtrak Derailment

New York, April 28 (Bloomberg) -- New York and New Jersey rail commuters faced travel delays after at least one Amtrak baggage car derailed this morning inside New York's Penn Station.
New Jersey Transit, Amtrak and Long Island Railroad trains were delayed by as much as 15 minutes, rail officials said. New Jersey Transit Midtown Direct trains were diverted to Hoboken, New Jersey, a spokesman said. From there, commuters can travel to New York on PATH trains.
Three baggage cars being moved this morning at about 1:30 a.m. experienced equipment problems. At least one of the cars derailed and turned over, said Amtrak spokeswoman Karen Dunn. The disabled cars blocked five tracks in the station, Dunn said. ``We're looking at delays of about 10 minutes, and sometimes not even that much,'' Dunn said. `Fifteen minutes at the most.''
Workers were using cranes this morning to right the overturned car and Dunn said the tracks probably will be clear for the afternoon rush hour. The cars weren't loaded and no one was injured, she said.
