SINGAPORE (April 28) XINHUA - Some 150 cases of Chernobyl computer virus strikes on Wednesday have been reported in Singapore, Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS) reported Friday.

The dreaded Chernobyl virus struck again on Wednesday, its first anniversary. TCS said a check with the Singapore Emergency Response Team, SingCert, showed that 31 cases of virus attack were reported and at computer company Hewlett Packard the number was 110.

Hewlett Packard was quoted as saying that the number was much lower this year because PC owners are probably more aware of the virus attack. Hewlett Packard told a local newspaper that all complaints from users were that their computers could not be started up.

The damage this year was limited compared to the tens of millions of computers paralyzed worldwide last year.

There are two strains of the Chernobyl or CIH virus. One strikes on the 26th day of every month and the other on April 26 each year, the day of Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The computer is either paralyzed or its data destroyed.
