Sherman Act

Maybe you can show me where Janet Reno and her bosses(CNN-AOL/Time Warner-ABC-NBC-CBS and) you know, the MEDIA whores who now want control back of this little internet thingee which they thought would just go away, gets off thinking breaking up a corporation is within her powers under the Sherman Act? Might also want to explain to me how MS is actually guilty etc of monopolizing a market they created. If you think otherwise, you need to wake-up.

I know "they" have many here diverted with the Alien smoke they are force feeding you alls, but I would like some feedback.

We have probably the SINGLE most important issue at hand, and most here want to transfer back and forth the racism meme Big Bro always uses whenever they are doing something to like steal your wallet, or in this case, help their employers strangle a competitor so as to gain marketshare. If MS is touched, who will be next? Oracle and their nify stranglehold on the DB market? What is the freaking mystery anyhow? What is it that MS has to OPEN?

Pretty much uncalled for, would be surprized to see that response to Doc get wiped.

But, then again, it is typical doomer prose. Ignore the question, attack those you disagree with.

Oh yeah, and "forget to turn on intelligent thought proccesses". Jeez, I wouldn't want to leave that doomer mantra out, now would I?

Whatsamatta,

You don't want your dirty little secret aired? Too bad. Other people here have had to live through it and done it gracefully.

As much as I hate to say it, I agree with you.

The American Dream is to succeed, just be sure that you don't succeed so much that you piss off people who spend more on politicians than you do.

Monopolies, now here's a new interesting subject to debate for those tired of Elian and religion.

Personally I'd be very interested to hear what thinkers on this forum think on this issue.

I am wavering about MS. On the one hand, I believe that breaking up monopolies is good for spurring competition and the economy, on the other hand, when is a company a "monopoly"? Is it due to illegal tactics from said company to thwart legitimate, better competition? If such tactics are used, aren't we all gypped? If not, then the company is gypped if broken up.

Another company to watch IMO is Cisco, the "internet backbone". Any thoughts on that?

My only thought is that you and Patricia are the same whore, Ann.

Did you suck him off too?

MICROSOFT SETTLES WITH JUSTICE

Attorney General Janet Reno declared victory in the case. She said the settlement "levels the playing field and opens the door for competition" in the operating system market.

The Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission have decided they have no objection to Cisco's approximately $600 million buyout of the switching and routing portion of IBM's Networking Hardware Division (NHD). To ease the migration path of NHD customers to Cisco gear, the companies plan to begin interoperability testing between their separate products, sources say. It is also likely that Cisco will tweak its management software to handle IBM devices.

There appears to be little apprehension among customers about moving from IBM to Cisco, although one manager expressed concern about narrowing market options.

"The problem I have is Cisco is coming too close to being a monopoly," says an IT director at a large enterprise network, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. "We always want to have two vendors, and in this area, we don't. Cisco is the networking company." The manager says that while Cisco is usually very responsive to customer requests, he fears that could change and "there would be no alternative" vendor. 12/13/99

We condemn all coercive monopolies. We recognize that government is the source of monopoly, through its grants of legal privilege to special interests in the economy. In order to abolish monopolies, we advocate a strict separation of business and State. "Anti-trust" laws do not prevent monopoly, but foster it by limiting competition. We therefore call for the repeal of all "anti-trust" laws, including the Robinson-Patman Act which restricts price discounts, the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, and the Clayton Anti-Trust Act. We further call for the abolition of the Federal Trade Commission and the anti-trust division of the Department of Justice.

We defend the right of individuals to form corporations, cooperatives, and other types of companies based on voluntary association. Laws of incorporation should not include grants of monopoly privilege. In particular, we oppose special limits on the liability of corporations for damages caused in noncontractual transactions. We also oppose state or federal limits on the size of private companies and on the right of companies to merge. We further oppose efforts, in the name of social responsibility, or any other reason, to expand federal chartering of corporations into a pretext for government control of business.

AP, re: dll hell, wow! Great link. This could explain my current nightmares, and why I instinctively hate any games on my PC. My gut feelings were that they are the main cause of my current troubles. I doubt that game developers are paying much attention to this dll hell problem.

I'm not sure I understand your connection of DLL hell problem and monopoly, but it certainly does point out just how inherantly flawed and a nightmarish quagmire Windows really is.
