Title: TELEPHONE GLITCH HITS UK'S 3G AUCTION 25-APR-2000 11:17

A telephone glitch hit the auction for third generation mobile phone licences in the UK this morning, leading to a suspension of bidding.

The problem occured when outgoing telephone lines at the Radiocommunications Agency broke down.

The six remaining participants were informed by mobile phone that the auction had been halted pending the repairs.

The next round should begin at 11.35am and last for 20 minutes.

The breakdown occurred as many businesses were troubled by network problems linked with the weekend's number changes in the UK.
