Title: Two Killed in Plane Crash in Shenandoah County

April 22, 2000, 11:24 PM

MOUNT JACKSON, Va. (AP) -- A couple flying from Michigan to Newport News to visit family over the Easter weekend were killed Saturday when their small airplane clipped some power lines and crashed in Shenandoah County, state police said.

The couple were identified as Gary Wilson of Millington, in Michigan's Thumb region, and his wife Marcia, 54, state police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said.

The Wilsons, who flew out of Caro, Mich., in the morning, were planning to refuel their four-seat Beechcraft Bonanza in Charlottesville before continuing on to Newport News in the southeastern portion of the state when the plane crashed, she said.

The plane came within 50 feet of striking a house in the Conicville community just west of Mount Jackson shortly after 1 p.m., Caldwell said. Wreckage and debris from the plane, which Gary Wilson owned, was scattered for about a mile, she said.

Police had no further details, but state police were expecting the National Transportation Safety Board to join them on site Sunday to continue the investigation.
